GRAPHING CALCULATORS

The Stuyvesant High School Math Department uses Texas Instruments model TI-83/84+ in the classroom. Although Hewlett-Packard, Casio, and other companies produce fine alternatives, a student who uses the TI-83/84+ should benefit from the fact that his or her teacher and the majority of his or her classmates will be using a similar model.

Note on the TI-85 and TI-86
The TI-85 was developed before the TI-82; it is not a more recent model. The TI-85 and TI-86 were developed to support engineering rather than mathematical applications (the distinction is a fine one). Many students find that the TI-83 better supports their needs in the mathematics classroom than do the engineering-oriented TI-85 and TI-86 models.
