Indiana Jones was born on July 1, 1899 according to TheRaider.net. Harrison Ford will be at least 61 by the time they film the 4th movie. If you make Indy the same age, the year is 1960.*

Indy in the '60s?!?

Ford may have been the star of the Indiana Jones series but his costar was the 1930s. The clothes, the cars, those "goose-stepping morons." Can you really picture an aged Indy riding in a VW bus? Holding a sit-in? Foiling the plans of Fidel Castro? And no one wore Fedoras after Kennedy.

Sure Ford can do one more movie. Heck let him do three more. But they need to keep the Nazi era setting. No matter how old Ford gets, Indy's top age is 45. Face it, someday Ford will be too old to be Indiana Jones circa WWII.

Just like 007, what they ought to do is recast the role. Many people thought Sean Connery was the only possible Bond but his departure did not kill the franchise. Indiana Jones is a great character, whether played by Harrison Ford, River Phoenix or Sean Patrick Flanery.

Sean Patrick Flanery, who played Indy on television, will be 37 this year -- the same age as Ford was in Raiders. Indiana Jones fans liked Flanery in the role on TV and would probably follow him to the cinema.

When all is said and done, they shouldn't end the series because Harrison Ford gets old. As Yoda says, "There is another."

*In the July 14th issue of The Washington Post, Harrison Ford confirmed that the 4th movie will be set in the 1950s.
