(note - you have to dig a bit on the site to find the details)
The trail crews are a week long and the fee covers food, lodging and instruction. Its a great way
for teens to appreciate the trail, to meet new peers and to have a great time.
The fee is $125.

A select number of young men and women at least 16 by arrival date, but not yet 21, will be selected to carry out vital conservation projects and necessary trail building at Philmont. The crews are not co-ed. This program is absolutely FREE (the only cost is transportation to and from Philmont). Limited to older Scouts and Explorers, a Philmont Trail crew spends 18 days at a backcountry work project. Upon completion of their project, Trail crew members then take a 12 day trek that they plan themselves under the leadership of experienced conservation staff, their Trail Crew foreman. After their 28 days at Philmont their foremen evaluate the participants, this eval will go into a permanent file at Philmont that would be look at if they ever apply to work there. Their are two sessions per year, one from approximately June 15 to July 12 and another from July 19 to August 14. Their are also about 9 OA Trail Crew sessions per summer.

SCA's High School Conservation Work Crew Program offers a unique opportunity for 16- to 19-year olds to work for about a month in magnificent outdoor settings on public lands. Teamed with six to 10 fellow students from across the nation under the direction of skilled SCA crew leaders, participating high school students increase their understanding of the environment and expand their horizons. No experience is necessary; just a willingness to roll up your sleeves and be committed to working with others. Volunteers live in tents near the worksite, often several miles from a road and far from the interference of area visitors.
