The Mountain Bothies Association (MBA) is a charity founded in 1965 with the objective "to maintain simple unlocked shelters in remote country for the use and benefit of all who love wild and lonely places". The buildings maintained are simple shelters providing as a minimum; roof, door, windows and usually a fireplace or stove. Firewood and water are usually available within a mile or so of the bothy. Maintenance of bothies ranges from painting and mending broken windows to total refurbishment from the condition of only main walls remaining. The diversity of work done is suited to all skill levels, from the accomplished tea maker, to the qualified engineer.
