Interactivity
Are we having fun yet?
Some web sites, and this one
seems like a good candidate, should be fun. Fun for the people building it, for
whom it is mostly a hobby. But fun also for the intended audience. By fun we
mean it is easy to enjoy or be involved in what the site offers. It's up to the
builders to provide an array of possibilities for the viewer to contemplate, who
will then select a level of participation that is comfortable for them. This
site attempts to provide a range of opportunities. At a minimum we hope our
classmates will register with our email service (and even there they can elect
to not have email sent to them!). From there things can progress as far as
providing web pages for the site. We intend to accommodate the silent majority
as well as our more enthusiastic brethren. Below is a summary of participatory
aspects of this site, hopefully with something offered for every level of
interest.
If we haven't heard from you yet, we would like to know you are out there somewhere, and here are a number of ways you can let us know that. For those already on board, here's a list to keep in mind.
This is a dynamic site that will thrive best catering to diverse interests.
Here's where the action is:
| GoodBooks | If you like a book, add it to our list. Any kind of book; fiction, non-fiction, reference, technical, even 'other'. | |
| Artwork | Do you paint? Are you a photographer? Do you do crafts? Are you a gardener? Flower arranger? Hobby? That is, if you have a (digital) picture that reflects your creative talents, please share with us. | |
| Backgrounds | You are encouraged to submit pictures or patterns (possibly pilfered from other pages; the background on this page is an example of that nefarious penchant) to be used on this site as backgrounds of pages or cells. One of our pages is devoted to this meandering pursuit. Decorative GIFs are always welcome. | |
| Book Fund | The class of '54 has a long-standing fund for buying library books. Contributions are welcome. | |
| Campus Pictures | If you visit the campus and take pictures, please consider making at least some of them available for use on this site. | |
| 50th Reunion Fund | A special fund has been set up to be a gift from the class to the School on the occasion of our 50th reunion. Contributions are welcome. | |
| Email List | The class email list is
maintained at the GS54 group of Yahoo!Groups. Please join. This is our single most sought-after event. |
|
| Family Stories | Family histories are often intertwined with American and world history, but from the personal perspective of someone we know. We are collecting these in the files section of the GS54 group area. More are expected, and maybe you have one you can share? | |
| General Interest files | Manuscripts with an interesting or informative perspective are also collected in the files section of the GS54 group area. | |
| Bookmarks | Know of a site that might interest others? Add it to the list of links in the Bookmarks section of the GS54 group area. | |
| Poet's Corner | Are you an incipient or established author? Share something with us. The web is a great place to publish something. Poetry. Short Story. Recipe. Treatise. | |
| Sand Box | Samples of what internet technology has to offer. These items are most definitely of the light amusement variety. Got any suggestions about what to add? | |
| Site Evolution | Link your home page, or
any page you create, into this site. If there is a topic of interest to you,
create a page(s) about it, send the URL to me, and we'll link you into the
"ring". This is definitely one of those cases of the more the merrier. We are busy building a content-rich site utilizing internet technology molded to the diverse interests and experiences of the class of '54. |
|
| Technology | There are lots of functions on the pages of this site. They generate the effects and provide calculations. These are in Java, JavaScript, PHP, HTML, VBscript, others. New ideas are welcome. | |
| Then & Now | Did someone take a picture of you at GS back then? Want to share it now? Do you have some current pictures of you or your family? Are you willing to share one or more? How about travel photos? | |
| Yahoo and Yahoo!groups | Please join Yahoo!
Then join the GS54
Yahoo!group. We use this free mechanism for email, for archiving files, for
listing interesting links and for other things. This is a self-managed
mechanism. Here's an overview of group facilities. |
