'54 Chat

Two or more people can enter into a real
time exchange anytime they are simultaneously joined to the "Chat" page that
is part of the GS54 group site. Joining is accomplished by invoking the
Chat feature, on the left of the GS54 main page screen.
To help determining when it is likely others are
concurrently available, a table for listing likely times has been
created in the database section of GS54. Anyone can add
or delete a row to or from this table. The idea is to have at least some
of us post rows to this table listing likely times of being joined to the GS54
chat page; i.e., when you are likely to be available to chat. Even if
the rest of us have not added a row to the table, all of us can still check
whenever we want to see when is the next likely session.
The name of the table is ChatSchedule.
Column 1 is for your name. Column 2 is the time
of likely availability, such as 7:30pm. Column 3 is day.
I see several ways to fill this in: a) a specific date
(perhaps to discuss a specific topic), b) a recurrent
specification, such as 2nd Monday each month, or Tuesday each week, etc, c)
the name on a different row, to signify that that day and time suit
you too (this probably should be restricted to "reserved names").
Column 4 is topic, which is any descriptive words you wish to
provide.
Chat does not require that anything be
downloaded or installed. Navigate to the GS54 site, click on
"Chat" to bring up that window. There will be a delay of
perhaps a minute while a Java applet is obtained, after which a 3-part frame
will open in your window. One line is for input, the right frame will
identify who has joined the 'room', while the left frame will contain all of
the lines of text sent by those logged onto the room. You may be the
first to join the room. Be patient. Leave the window 'open' for
at least 1/2 hour. In the meantime you can continue to work in any of
your other open windows. Just check the chat window occasionally to
see if anyone has arrived.
Since you are already here, how about a game of Tic Tac Toe?
