Philosophy/Education
- The
University of Virginia,
1965 - 81
"Philosophy" succinctly sums up my education - reading then teaching
philosophy at The University of Virginia for 15 years! I majored
first in Government, then Economics, then Eastern Religions, finishing
with Philosophy, taking my B.A. in 1969. Then I traveled around
the U.S. for a year, returning to UVA for another ten years of
grad school. No degree for that last ten years - about that I'm
philosophical - though it did allow a serious journey through
the history of ethics, psychology, and literature. I couldn't
get enough of it! All the while endlessly toiling on my unfinished
doctoral dissertation, titled "Character, Choice, and Change."
I taught Morals and Politics as a Teaching Assistant, and
for two glorious semesters, had full responsibility for the undergraduate
Aesthetics course. I still read widely today (see Reading
List), happily returning to favorites such as William and
Henry James.
