Tribute to Katia and Sergei

He was a man
She was a woman
Together they were magic
On and off the ice.

They were a team
One of the greatest ever
But one day all of that disappeared
When we lost Sergei.

There is a time to be born
There is a time to die
This was Sergei's time to leave
Though he is with us in our hearts.

How heart-wrenching it was
To watch Katia
Skate on her own
So sad for the end of an era had passed.

It still hurts
Even though it happened in 1995
The pain re-surfaces
We find ourselves asking "WHY"

Why Sergei? Why now?
There are questions with no answers
They must be asked
But no one has an answer.

They loved life
They loved each other
They were partners
They were parents.

To us it seemed
That they were living in a dream
In an instant the dream was shattered
And real life came back.

When Sergei died
Real life snuffed out a dream
But his memory
Lives on as it will for years.

No one will forget
The great team of Katia and Sergei
For they were the best there was
Even if it was for such a short time.
