Streets Of Gold
As children you played the part.
Prodigy on ice. Innocence becoming Champions.
The school years were necessary for your growing minds and bodies,
delicately crafted into future masterpieces.
A young boy named Sergei, a little doll called Katia,
Divinely destined for greatness, they finally met.
The training began, two learning to become one,
which brings us to the "Miserable, Pitiless Zhuk."
You learned hard work, stamina, and discipline
But more inportantly, what you didn't want in leader.
You grew in age and talent,
and little attractions became apparent, as innocently climbed the ladder of your sport.
The Holiday wish turned reality, as captivated the worlds heart at Calgary.
Your poetry on ice came true, as this partnership turned into Love.
Friends becoming lovers in Paris.
Romeo and Juliet in a Froggy Village, (with no frogs) and a strong bond forming.
Not on one knee, or in a restaurant, some proposals were made, and destiny was coming full circle.
The wedding was beautiful, but to be remembered was the Love you shared, and the
Love you created.
You made magic on ice, in a different manner now, as newlyweds, the world knew your
romance wasn't just an act.
A Gift given by God, left to be adored, was quite the surprise, but oh, quite the joy.
Daria came into your lives for such a wonderful reason. At such a perfect time.
Leaving her was torture, but you had to do what your life had called you to.
So as the door closed you wept, but knew you'd be a family again.
Moonlight sonata took the Gold and made it yours. Once again.
The piece that you'd worked for your whole lives.
Changes prevailed in your homeland, and the second road to glory began with your
training in the new Russia.
Before you knew it, Lillehammer came, and you vowed to remember every breath as you
took ours away.
With Gold around your necks, and love in your souls, you won this on for each other,
one look into each others eyes, they sparkled of Glory.
It was time to come to where your home was already made for you to create you own
life for your family. Simsbury provided a new home, and a domain filled with the love you deserved.
The last summer, was prophetic of the sadness to come, with a bruised back and much
confusion, you searched for the answers.
In all of life, the hardest to do is go. And let go. On the ice, where you began is where you left.
It must have raining that day. Crying from the sky a thousand tears.
With screams in her voice, and the sorrow in her heart, you left us.
Unexpected, and unplanned, you had to go. How do we ever say Goodbye?
Your beautiful little angel, that no one knew how to subside,
was filled with a torture that no one knew how to calm.
For you were her sunshine to awaken to, and in your loss, she lost herself.
Millions came together, to pay respect to a Legend. A sign of our times.
The perfect example of life, strength, and of a winner.
Many grieved his loss, and mourned the loss of the pinnacle of beauty on ice.
So a tribute was made.
Tears were lost, and hearts left broken.
But in her tribute to her wonderful Sergei, we all have hope again.
Hope that life does go on, and God will shield what he left behind.
Beautiful Katia and darling Daria.
So, this poem ends as softly as it began,
as they shall dance as children on the clouds of glory once again,
in a different place after all is said and done, they shall share their magic
once again, in
Heaven.
For God has saved a place where,
how fitting it is,
the streets are paved in Gold.
