Starting private lessons and competitions

My daughter (9 years) recently began skating and just passed Pre Alpha and is starting in Alpha. She wants to go on through all the ISI levels and then compete. As an interested and supportive parent who knows diddly about figure skating, I've been surfing the net and reading up on it. It seems to be a sport that gets very competitive and very expensive very quickly! At what point should I begin to think about private lessons and competitions? I want to support my daughter as far as she wants to go with this, but I don't want to bust the bank to do so! MK

Linda says:
You need to decide how much money and time you can afford to put into the sport. Private lessons do help skaters advance. You can try a few lessons and see how much progress is made. If your daughter enjoys the lessons and is mastering new elements, then you know it is worth continuing.
