Time devoted to figure skating

Thank you very much for your answer to the question about when and how to switch off from ISI to USFSA. I have a follow-up question regarding the amount of time at various ages and levels that should be devoted to group classes, private lessons, practice time, and off-ice time. My 5 year old daughter is currently taking a group class on Tuesdays, and a private lesson on Thursdays. Every other weekend (due to a divorce possession schedule), she has additional private lessons and practice/play time. What should I expect regarding time commitment at various ages and levels, leading up to competitive skating? Additionally, concerning the ISI/USFSA issue, is there some way, at Beta level, to put one foot into the USFSA world, such as by taking 2 lessons a month? Thank you for your time. I am a skating dad, and I have found this site to be extremely helpful. BLW

Linda says:
The amount of time each skater spends on lessons and practice ice vaires. Generally it is a good idea to have some practime time between lessons. Group lessons can also be good, especially for the younger skater. Many skaters find that consistency is important. They know when they have practice time and when it is lesson time. As the levels go up, the amount of practice time needed generally increases. The elements are harder and more practice is generally needed.

There shouldn't be any reason why you cannot do both ISI and USFSA. I have seen many other skaters doing just that. Some stay in both programs for a long time.
