Trying To Establish Competitive Team
|
Trying to establish competitive team at Club level (CFSA) to assist skaters who are competitive, and those who wish to be competitive. Do not wish to have parents whose kids are in it "just for fun" to be on the warpath, but at the same time do not wish to hold back those who have drive/desire/talent to achieve more. Any ideas? The general thought is not to have test/result requirements initially to join team, merely commitment to extra ice, sharing of those costs, sharing of fundraising responsibilities for benefit of team. Any ideas what other clubs have done regarding skaters being eligible for competitive team status? We have 3 kids who are ID'd and at least 4 others who will qualify for Sections who want a team formed, but I suspect there will be some difficulties because it will create status between recreational and competitive kids, however, it is not fair to hold back children who reach out for more. Your thoughts and experience would be appreciated. S.A. |
Linda says:
Before you establish the team, you should write down the purpose. Say that
this is for skaters who are ID'd or qualify for Sections and those who wish
to be. State clearly the expectations of skaters who would be part of this
team. If skaters on this team need to commit to extra ice and share in
fundraising, be specific in what you expect from each skater and/or family.
If the expectations and purpose of the team are known, then the skaters who
are in it just for fun are less likely to join. If the intent of the club is
known, it may be less likely to cause difficulties.
