Am I wasting my money for lessons?

I was wondering, my child is 8 and has been skating for 2 years, should she be higher in levels by now than she is? It seems to me she should be up more levels, and I was wondering, am I wasting my money for lessons, or just be patient? RG

Every child's progress is different. If you are seeing an improvement in the quality of your child's skating but not the more difficult elements, that may help you feel that you are not wasting your money. The quality of skating is very important and is more difficult to master an element rather than just learning the jump or spin.

It may be that your child will take longer than others to master an element. An 8 year old is young and her body is still growing which very much affects progress in a sport like skating. This doesn't mean you are wasting your money with private lessons, just that it will take more time. Another criteria you may want to use is by watching what your child is doing on the ice. In addition to lesson time, watch what she is doing during her practice time. Is she making good use of the time?  If so, she is making progress.

Skating is an expensive sport and parents want to see improvement for their money but you do need to have patience. You could ask another parent whose judgement you respect and someone who will be honest about good and bad, about your child's skating and improvement. Another person may see improvement in areas you haven't noticed. It is sometimes harder to see improvement in your child's skating.
