Considering private lessons for my child
I am seriously thinking about putting my daughter into the private coaching of skating and not into the CAN SKATE program. We have a small club and in her group from the previous years, there was 3 boys (they played hockey) and one other girl who showed up whenever. My daughter enjoys skating and wants to do more. I was talking to some moms who feels I am pushing it and other moms who says they wished they enrolled their child into CFSA from the beginning and skipped the can skate program. Our club is holding a fall school this year and I am enrolling my daughter in it. What should I do? Denise |
Linda says:
You know your child the best and should do what she prefers. You first
need to determine your daughter's interest. If she truely wants to skate
more, then definitely go with private lessons. If she's content where
she is, then staying in the can skate program may be a good idea.
The conflicting advice you are being given is probably coming from each person's personal experience. Someone who moved their child into the world of private lessons when the child wasn't ready or didn't want it, may be telling you to stay in the can skate program. On the other side is the parent who kept their child in the can skate program for a longer time then moved into private lessons. This parent may be advising you to move sooner into the private lessons since they are speaking from a different experience.
Unfortunately no one has a 'crystal ball' to tell the future so each person needs to do what they think is best for their child and themselves at that time. You want your daughter to not only enjoy skating but learn as well.
