What is "Talent Identified"?
|
In reading your other articles, I would like to know what "talent identified" is, how it happens, who decides, and other aspects of that area. I have never heard of this before. Linda DeBernardi |

In Canada, there are 13 sections within and each section is separate and distinct. In the section that I reside in a Talent Identification Program was initiated 1 year ago. Talent scouts were sent out to Interclub (competitive) competitions and assessed skaters with potential. They were targeting Preliminary to Pre-Novice skaters, under the age of 12 years old. These skaters which were identified in Phase 1 were sent to a Phase 2 site where they had to perform various elements as well as their competition solo. Skaters from these sites were picked and they formed a Junior Development Team. In our section there were about 20 skaters chosen and they are to remain on this team for two years. These skaters were monitored at various competitions through the year and written feedback was provided to them. They also attended an out of section competition, which was partially subsidized by the section. I believe they are skaters that judges and/or coaches feel have potential. It is not a guarantee that the chosen skaters will all excel.
I believe that other sections have the same type of thing, but the selection is different. One section bases in on the placing at two competitions the skater attends.
I'm not certain if the USFSA has a program like this in place.
