Jim Murphy's Web Page

From Back Bay in Boston, just what the world needs: another personal web page. No better than most, no worse than some.

Like all its counterparts, this page is based on vanity, opinionatedness, and arrogance. It is subject to constant revision (i.e., whenever I get around to it). Those whose image of the Internet is, say, post-1990s may find it a quaint example of the earlier days of personal web pages.

To strike a chord often sounded in those times, old browsers are not accommodated here. Such software is cheap or free; so everyone should get with the program. In previous editions of this page, I urged readers not to let Bill Gates own all the money on earth and put in a link to Netscape. Since then Netscape went so downhill that even I have gone over to the "evil empire." And the moral argument for Netscape certainly lessened to approximately zero when it joined AOL. I am aware that are alternatives to IE that may be even better, but life is limited and there other things I need to learn.

This page was first broadcast on May 21, 1997 and last updated on October 24, 2007.  This is my seventeenth edition, which I am declaring to be version 4.95, there being no new sections, just updates.

In this new version, I have updated the Walk page, with one new narrative, Route 110 West from Lowell, and a few additions to the Walks section of the Links page.  I am still falling further behind on the walks, which really are the main contribution to human knowledge here.

I am aware that, due to changes made by Yahoo, Lycos, Alta Vista, the MBTA and others, many links have expired. Since I am so far behind in posting new material, I find it very difficult to allocate time for maintenance and repairs.  However, I will follow up on any corrective action notices sent to me.  I cannot emphasize enough that information on errors is sincerely appreciated and will receive priority attention.

Here is the current list of offerings:

This page was created using Netscape Navigator Gold and first revised with Netscape Composer. I am currently using FrontPage. However, to see what a really good Web page looks, go to Lunar Media, the creator of my business page.

I am also the webmaster for the Massachusetts Bay OD Learning Group. However, I can't take credit for its design, which was by Lunar Media and former MBODLG member Josh Burdett.

Once again, I am grateful for any corrections and additional information.  While I do not relish foolish messages and would prefer that those whose opinions are contrary to the views herein expressed just post them on their own Web page, still, if you really have something to say, e-mail here:  .
