DataCAD How-To's
HOW TO
USE 3D GOTO VIEWS
If you are not already using GotoViews
you are missing out on unarguably one of THE best features of DataCad!
The tedious method to switch from the First Floor plan of a house to the
Second Floor plan would be to go to the Layers menu and turn on
each layer that makes up the Second Floor plan, then turning off each layer
that makes up the First floor. If each floor has, say, 10 layers, that's
a lot of work. Especially if all you wanted to do was take a quick look
at something on the Second Floor, then go back to the First Floor to continue
your work. The EASY way to do this it to use GoToView to save a series
of "views" determined by you.
3D GotoView Properties:
-
3D GotoViews work on 2D as well as 3D
views. This is an important thing to remember! 3D GotoViews can and should
be used on your 2D drafting plans and all your other 2D work.
-
3D GotoViews are unlimitted. You can have
as many as you want.
-
3D GotoViews do not have to be in a "real"
scale -- you can save any view at any time in any scale.
-
3D GotoViews save your Clip Cube information.
If Clip Cube is turned ON when you save your 3D GotoView, the Clip Cube
will automatically be turned on when you toggle your 3D GotoView ON.
Saving a 3D GotoView:
-
Turn on the layers you want to save, and
WindowIn or out to the view you want to keep.
-
Go to the 2D Utility menu and click
on GotoView.
-
Click on AddView. You will be prompted
to enter a name for your view. Enter up to 8 characters (do not use an
underscore "_" in the name), then hit Enter.
To access your 3D GotoViews:
-
Go to the 2D Utility menu and click
on GotoView.
-
Click on one of your saved views in the
menu. Your view will appear, with all the layers and any clip cubes you
saved.
-
OR: You can access your views via the
Shift+# keys.
I have my keyboard macros set up so that
Alt+Z goes to the GotoView menu, creates a new view,
and prompts me for a name for my new view. I also have Alt+G
set up to automatically go to the 3D GotoViews.
