This formidable book, written by Dr. Rolf, took years to complete. In her elegant style, Dr. Rolf explores how humans are designed, the nature of structure and how it can change. John Lodge, a practioner of Structural Integration, has drawn some of the most beautiful drawings depicting human anatomy and structure. Additionally, their are hundreds of "before and after photographs," taken by Ron Thompson, a practioner of Structural Integration. While not a how to manual, this book is extremely helpful to the novice and the advanced student alike.

Robin McKenzie, a Physical Therapist from NewZeland, is one of the worlds leading experts on back pain.

Robin McKenzie has written these books for the practioner and the patient alike. They offer clear, concise information on the nature of neck and back pain, how you may have gotten it and most importantly, what you yourself can do about it with specific exercise and changes in your daily life.

Robin's work is being taught to Physical Therapists throughout the world. These books are required reading for all suffers of neck and back pain.

Claire, a licensed massage therapist, has written a complete guide to assessing a wide range of therapeutic practices. An entire chapter is devoted to Structural Integration and his experience of being Rolfed by practitioner David Frome. Claire presents theory, benefits,contraindications and practitioner training for techniques such as Rolfing, Swedish Massage, Myofascial Release, Trager, Shiatsu and Reflexology. A great resource book for exploring different types of bodywork.

This is a wonderful resource for students of stretching. It explains the importance of stretching, how to do it, and shows you appropriate stretches for specific activities. The illustrations are clear and concise. this book is user friendly.

"The Anatomy Coloring Book," by Wynn Kapit and Lawrence M. Elson

This is a fine way to begin your studies in anatomy. The authors guide you through the systems of the body including the cells, skin fascia, muscle, bone, vascular, neurologic, digestive, urinary, reproductive, and endocrine systems. Each illustration has accompanying text in surprising detail. The plates are handsomely drawn.

While this book can be used by children, I suspect it is intended for adults and perhaps young adults. I am still intrigued by this book.

 

 

"The Magic of Massage: A New and Holistic Approach," by Ouida West

In this book, Ouida West introduces many massage techniques including, Shiatsu, Reflexology, Touch for Health and Swedish Massage. Also included are chapters on self massage, massage for pets, children,common ailments and a guide to doing a one hour massage.

This book is well organized and illustrated with numerous photographs and drawings. It is a fine book to explore massage as a tool for health and a way of sharing.

 

"Tusbo: Vital Points for Oriental Therapy," by Katsusuke Serizawa

This is perhaps the best book ever written on Oriental Massage to date. Dr. Katsusuke Serizawa offers text on the philosophy of Oriental Medicine and how it works. He explains the different massage techniques available and gives a treatment strategy for a variety of ailments.

Illustrations and photos are clear and easy to follow. I highly recommend this book.

"Foot Reflexology: A Visual Guide for Self-Treatment," by Jurgen Jora.

Jurgen Jora's book has a coffee table quality. The plates are brilliant in their simplicity and detail, the writing clear an concise. You may find it hard to resist trying out the points used for digestive or any of the other ailments shown in this striking and handsome book.

"The Complete Book of Pregnancy and Childbirth," by Shiela Kitzinger, photographs by Marcia May

This comprehensive guide describes the experience of pregnancy and childbirth and explores the emotional and physical changes as they occur throughout the process. The book explores the medical customs and practices around childbirth, the choices and responsibilities of the parents, nutrition, exercise, the role of the father or partner, and the changing relationship of the couple.

Shiela Kitzinger is a long time advocate of women's rights and has been teaching her unique psychosexual approach to childbirth since 1957. She is also a social anthropologist. Her books are elegantly written and delightful.

"The Year After Childbirth: Enjoy Your Body, Your Relationship and Yourself in Your Baby's First Year," by Shiela Kitzinger

This book guides new parents through the first year in a babies life. Subjects included are how the mothers body changes, breast feeding, nutrition, fatherhood, work, child care and the relationships of the mother to her baby, her spouse, and to her older children.

I cannot say enough in praise of this writers work.
