What's new...
This website is mostly about the First Edition of STCCG. Decipher released a Second Edition and changed a lot of things.. obviously I wasn't very excited about this. I tried to play the new game but now with the release of Call to Arms I decided to quit second edition and focus on 1e. The first couple Borg cards boosted that decision... more about my reasons on the 2nd edition page...(32/03)
In 1996 I saw a starter deck of
Decipher's Star Trek CCG
in a comic shop in Cologne for the first time. Since I always was interested in Star Trek and all it's spin-offs I bought it. I thought it could be a neat game. Unfortunately I didn't know anyone else who played it except 'Ojo', but he was not very pationate about it. So the cards sat there for a couple month untouched. Then I got my first internet connection at home and everything changed. Now I had access to the stccg communtity which is mostly based on internet and email contacts and I found out about more players in the Cologne area. Soon I got to know 'RoToRa' and 'McShop', some of the best players in Germany. We attended several tourneys and I now started playing and collecting the game seriously. We played at tourneys in Cologne and Aachen but also in Münster or the 'Ruhrgebiet'. We also attended the player organized stccg weekend in Esslingen in 1999.
In April 2000 I moved to Philadelphia. Of course I thought here in the U.S., the origin of the game, there would be plenty of opportunities to play stccg. But actually it's quite similar to Germany. Players are spread all over the place and you have to drive sometimes 100 miles to a tourney, but at least the fuel is cheap in the U.S.. Most tourneys take place in comic shops located in malls or shopping centers. Hence, here in the city of Philadelphia is actually not much going on regarding stccg. I frequently went to shops and tourneys in
West Berlin (NJ), Jenkintown (PA), Clarks Summit (PA) and Cinnaminson (NJ).
In November 2002 I went the first time to DecipherCon. Check out what happened there on my DCon Page. Tourney reports, pictures and comments are awaiting you.
At this point Decipher had already announced the release of a second edition, which would play differently than the current game. I knew, that DCon 2002 was probably the last big stccg tourney for me. And right, the scene basically collapsed after the release of second edition.
Luckily, in March 2001 the Online STCCG was launched by DigitalDeck (now WorldsApart) and I subscribed. It is a great opportunity to play and test decks, especially when no-one is around to play with. Nowadays the only chance to play first edition.
Also on this site you find, a Tourney Page, a site about the tourneys announcements and venues here in the area. Find out about recent or upcoming tourneys, results, pictures, statistics, the location and how to get there.
Sometimes you can see postings and comments on several message boards regarding stccg, like the Decipher Message Boards or the board of the most popular German STCCG Site.
