I added my DCon report to this website including some pictures... take a look: DCon 2002 report.
Also available the decklist of my Vidiian Deck (day 2) and my Hirogen Deck (day 3) on my
Favorite Decks page.
October 31th, 2002 to November 3rd, 2002 - DecipherCon 2002
This year John Corbett and I went the first time to DCon. We had a great time playing tourneys and getting to know new players. My report is coming soon.
October 7th, 2002 - 2nd Edition Announcement
Big D announced the release date of the second edition of stccg. It will be on December 13th, the opening of the new ST movie Nemesis. So it seems they have a decent marketing concept this time. Also they promised to release the broken links in first edition design, thanks, at least that!
Let's hope the new game is a success and we get some players here in the area.
September 28th, 2002 - The "Battle of Betazed"
Well, John and I need some practice for the upcoming worlds, so we went up near to Hartford, CT to join the Battle of Betazed. All in all a great tourney.. read the tourney report or even in German
September 2nd, 2002 - Online Tourney
Well, when the player base is going down, there's always the online game that you can rely on. On Labor Day they hosted a tourney which I gladly joined. I played a Borg Assimilation Deck and came in second. Read a tourney report in German
August 13th, 2002 - Tourney in Jenkintwon, PA
Ok, I tried again to host a tourney but no-one showed up. Funny how a city of 4 Million inhabitants doesn't have any players. I guess I have to wait till Second Edition comes out and hope we get more and new players then. Meanwhile I play against John and drive up to Clarks Summit. The only option at the moment.
July 6th, 2002 - Tourney in Jenkintwon, PA
When I sceduled this event I forgot that it's holiday weekend, also there was Origins in Columbus. So actually no wonder that no-one showed up...better luck next time.
June 29th, 2002 - NYC Opens in Manhattan
I took the opportunity of the NYC Open to visit New York again. I entered the train in Philadelphia and arrived at 11 am in Manhatten at the Penn Station. A couple blocks away is the Neutral Ground game shop where the Opens supposed to be, but when I got in only me, myself and I was there. I walked around in Manhattan a little bit and when I came back two more players and the TD was there. Disappointing for a city with ten million inhabitants. So we played round robin with three players.
First game was against Ed who played Romulan HQ with Neutral Outpost and War Council, he also seeded a Horgh'an, which I unfortunately couldn't block with a Dead End. I played my Hirogen/Kazon Outgunned deck, but I screwed up my seeds (forgot Mission Fatigue for Vic). So I had a bad start, additionally Ed played extremely slow, so I had only a couple turns. He won timed 70-35 or something.
Second game was against Steve who played Borg HP010, he downloaded his outpost with Construct Starship and switched Objectives with Fifth/Cranial Transceiver Implant. His FC Queen got Resistance as skill and he downloaded Espionage Bajoran on Cardassian to download more drones. I did my stuff right this time and got Vic downloads for Chakotay and Cyrus in the first turn. Then I tried mission solving since outgunning Borg Cubes is not that easy. He scouted quickly a mission and switched to HP010. I prevented him from probing with a Hirogen ship that I wormholed to him and battled him there. I could stop him from doing HP010 twice this game. This gave me time to do some missions. He made the mistake to complete Establish Gateway on my mission so I put Feedback Surge on table, with another mission I won. 100-70 I think.
Since he was already qualified for the worlds and I didn't want to play him again we skipped the final confrontation and I got my bye for day 2 and a nice foil binder.
June 23rd, 2002 - Tourney in Clarks Summit, PA
Here we had twelve players and a nice turnout. See the
tourney report
or read it in
German.
June 15th, 2002 - NJ Territorial Opens
I ran the NJ Territorial Opens. Unfortunatley only six players showed up. John Corbett won the final confrontation against Jesse Carlucci.
June 3rd, 2002 - MD Territorial Opens
I coudn't go to the MD opens since I was busy doing stuff at the house, I guess it was a mistake since MD is a not very competitive area...I try to go to the NY Opens in Manhatten.
I am not very excited about the new STTCG that Decipher plans to do. It reminds me strongly of LotR (exert this to do this and exert that to do this) and I don't think this is a suitable thing for a Star Trek card game.
Also in the new game you control only one ship, in the current game you control a whole affiliation, guess what offers more strategies... Also the new game will pull it's depth mainly from energy and deck manipulation...(yawn).
May 19th, 2002 - PA Territorial Opens in York, PA
Eleven players showed up in York to qualify for the Worlds this year. John C. run the tourney and I tried again, like in the two regionals the years before, to succeed with a battle deck....see the tourney report.
May 4th, 2002 - Tourney in Jenkintown, PA
This time we had only 5 players showing up, probably some folks were shocked by the "bad" news about a new game. So the tourney wasn't sanctioned. John, Jesse, Josh, Dave and me played despite a tourney with 4 rounds. Jesse got the perfect score 8 (+400) with his HirogenHoloDeck, then my NA/EmpokDeck followed by John, he played Kazon Klingon Battle. Josh played a Fed Movie Deck and Dave tried Harness Particle 010. All in all a fun day. Hope to see more players again next time.
May 1st, 2002
I am going to run the New Jersey Territorial Opens in Cedar Grove, NJ. The date is June 15th at 11 am.
We also got today the announcement from Decipher that they will probably release a new Star Trek game...instead of promoting/supporting the already existing one :(
April 27th, 2002 - Neutral Grounds, Manhatten, NY
I used my first visit to NYC to check out the Neutral Grounds store in Manhatten. Looks like a floor in an old office building, but they have a lot of tables and games going on. Unfortunately there were no stccg players at this time... so I put emphasis on the other landmarks of Manhattan :-)
April 21th, 2002 - Tourney in Clarks Summit, PA
Sorry no tourney report this time, I was busy these days at work. Anyway it was not a glorious result, I lost three games and won two, I came in 5th out eight players. ...and this with my Kazon/Hirogen Outgunned Deck, next time I am going to play something with the TMP cards.
April 17th, 2002 - Release Day of The Motion Picture expansion
I bought 5 boxes. I got two complete sets out of that and one Ultra-Rare. Ok, can't be everytime like Holodeck Adventures, where I got two Dixon Hills out of five boxes. So it's alright....built already a deck, but got smacked down by John C when we tested it....nothing new.
April 14th, 2002 - Tourney in West Berlin, NJ
I went to John C. tourney that day and was dissappointed about the attendance. Only five players showed up, including Jesse from NY state. At least this gave me the opportunity to test my new Borg Stop First Contact Deck. I lost twice against Sam and John C., so I got to improve that ;-(....
April 6th, 2002 - Tourney in Jenkintown, PA
I hosted a tourney at Brave New Worlds in Jenkintown again. This time a standard constructed tournament.
March 24th, 2002 - Tourney in West Berlin, NJ
John K. and I drove to Berlin for John C's tourney. This time some a couple local guys showed up, although one important player was missing. I finished second place.
March 17th, 2002 - Tourney in Clarks Summit, PA
John C. and I drove up to Clarks Summit for Pat's tourney. This time some guys from New York showed up as well....see the tourney report
March 2nd, 2002 - Tourney in Jenkintown, PA
I hosted my first tourney in Jenkintown. It was a Voyager only constructed and we had nine players showing up.
February 17th, 2002 - Tourney in Clarks Summit, PA
Pat was hosting a tourney in CS, so I drove up and even took my digicam with me. So there will be some pictures....
See the tourney report.
February 13th - 20th, 2002 - RedDwarf's Online Tourney
On February 13th an online tourney hosted by RedDwarf started. It's finally a standard tourney with regular decks in the online stccg, most of the time they have some special rules, which are quite annoying. Every round is played within three days.
See the tourney report.
February 2nd, 2002 - Disappointing....
The tournament in Esslingen, Germany was cancelled due to a Magic tourney, booo! So I was lucky that I asked if the tourney really takes place, since it's 160 miles away. The players close to my home town didn't reply to my emails so there was no opportunity to play stccg except playing against myself.
..Time to go back to Phila.
January 23rd, 2002 - Trip to Germany
I am heading off to Germany. I plan to visit some stccg players in South West Germany and I try to attend a tourney in Esslingen....I keep you informed
January 20th, 2002 - Tourney in West Berlin, NJ
This was the first tourney in the new year and the first with the new Holodeck Adventures cards. So I was excited to see what cheese deck Grand Nagus Len would play, how I would compete against it.
Read the tourney report.
December 21st, 2001 - Holodeck Adventures Release
All Hail to Harry! My work fellow Harry drove me to West Berlin to get the preordered HA boxes, five in total which I shared with my girlfriend Michelle. Of course she pulled two Dixon Hill, but she gave me one...I am so lucky....
Distribution and quality of the cards was nice as usual.
