What's new...

I just finished my review on my favorite PS2 soccer game, Winning Eleven 6, take a look. I also put up my glorious soccer history again and the GOAL! page... (32/03)

Soccer!

All About Soccer (German) Of course I like soccer! Well, that's not a surprising thing for a German guy. It started as a child when I was playing with my fellows from school on a small field in our area. Although I never joined a soccer club, I kept playing here and there on different occasions.
Playing on a more regular basis began during my chemistry studies in Cologne. We had a great community whith a couple soccer players, who were not too competitive but still skilled enough to play decent games. We played several tournaments for hobby teams, take a look into my soccer history.

Of course this was not all. It was the time when computer games started being more realistic. We discovered a soccer game called GOAL! programmed by Dino Dini. I hosted several GOAL! tournaments in my appartment while we were watching soccer on TV, see my GOAL! page for more info.

Here in Philadelphia I play in a hobby team called FC Stun. More or less regularly I kick the ball Sundays and/or Mondays. It's really a nice group since they are quite patient with my skills. Check out the website! I think there are some pictures of mine... you just have to find them :)

A must-read for every soccer fan is "Fever Pitch" by Nick Hornby. A wonderful story about an Arsenal fan (actually himself), his life, friends and love.

Two years ago I subscribed to a satellite TV provider. From this point on I was able to see European soccer like Champions-League or certain matches with national teams. In addition, ESPN's coverage of the 2002 World Cup was perfect. They showed every game live, which was even better than the legal TV situation in Germany. And with a German soccer team that played very well, it was worth it.
Since last year, for ten bucks more a month, I will be able to see the German Bundesliga; Saturday and Sunday one live match, great. And now, that the 1.FC Cologne is back in the Bundesliga, I get to see the team of the city where I studied.

An important webtool for foreign soccer fans who live in the US is the SoccerTV website. They summarize the TV broadcasts in US-TV with soccer teams from all over the world for the next 14 days.

On the Playstation 2 I currently play Winning Eleven 6, my favorite soccer video game. I am trying to get a group of people together to play tournaments. To see the game, take a look at my PS2 soccer game reviews. If you are interested to play some games or a tourney, drop me a line via email.
