International Blues Challenge - Memphis, TN
February 2nd-3rd, 2001

Mike Guldin & Rollin' and Tumblin' competed in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN, representing the Lehigh Valley Blues Network. There was a semi-final round on Friday night where 52 bands played in 8 clubs up and down Beale Street, and the winner from each club performed Saturday night at the New Daisy Theater on Beale Street.

After a day spent sightseeing in Memphis (yes, we went to Graceland!), we played at the Rum Boogie Cafe, on the corner of 2nd and Beale, going on second in a lineup of 7 bands. We played what we thought was a strong set, then took off to check out the competition.

At 2:30 AM, the winners from each club were announced, and we were thrilled to find out that we had won the Rum Boogie semi-final. We spent the next day sightseeing again (Sun Studios being the highlight), and then again played second in a lineup of 8 bands in the finals. Below are some photos taken from our set in the finals. They placed the top three finishers, and though we didn't make that, we had a BLAST! I hope the fun we had is communicated in the photos below.
