A memorial service for Edward Lorenzi, a retired Bethlehem Steel superintendent and World War II veteran, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 15 in St. Bernadette's Catholic Church, 5930 Abbott Road, Orchard Park.
Lorenzi, 79, died Dec. 1, 2002, in Sun City Center, Fla.
Born in Creighton, Pa., he graduated from East Deer High School in 1941. Two years later, he enlisted in the Army Air Forces; he served as a navigator in bombing missions over Germany and flew combat support during the Battle of the Bulge. He was discharged as a lieutenant in 1945.
Lorenzi attended Washington and Jefferson College and graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a degree in metallurgy in 1947.
He joined Bethlehem Steel in Lackawanna and worked there for 30 years before retiring as general superintendent of steelmaking in 1978. He was a longtime Eden resident and former member of the Eden Central School Board.
He raised grapes on his Eden farm and enjoyed swimming, golf, cards, church work and school volunteer work. He also was a Penn State football fan.
After retiring, Lorenzi moved to Longview, Texas, and then to Sun City Center, where he was a member of the community's Western New York Club. He was a life member of the Penn State Alumni Association.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, the former Paige Heath; six sons, Allen of Broadview Heights, Ohio, Thomas of Littleton, Colo., Peter of Timonium, Md., Douglas of Chantilly, Va., Theodore of Brookfield, Ill., Joseph of Raleigh, N.C., and Mark of Potomac, Md.; two daughters, Frances Wilk and Mary Ann Neyman, both of Hamburg; and 15 grandchildren.
