We are not professional reviewers and
so we really do read books from cover to
cover to review them. However this one is
huge and if I did not stop myself, I'd
never get this newsletter done. It's the
best I've seen for people who are learning
about communal living for the first time.
You all know we sell the COMMUNITIES

Since our work is research rather than

but this one is such a great one that we
feel we must have copies on hand to show
people at all time. Therefore, I decided

REBUILDING COMMUNITY IN AMERICA is
published by Ken Norwood of the Shared
Housing Resource Center in Calif. Ken's an
architect who's lived in many different
communities for over 20 years and is doing
so today. But almost his entire 71 years
has been kind of communal, even his time
in a Nazi prisoner of war camp where he
saw British, Canadian and Aussie prisoners
sharing much more than Americans.
This is really a "how to" book that
tells how to form communities even on your
city block and shows successful examples.

convesations with a scientist who follows in the footsteps

UTOPIAN COMMUNITY IN COLOMBIA, S.A.
NEW, NEW ! NPR reports on life in a utopian community in Colombia
going at least 25 years. Here is a group of 200 people who have
formed a community in the poorest area of the country, a place no
one would ordinarilly settle, to prove that a successful life can
be built there. They've got new inventions that make work into
play, and are even finding ways to re-grown rain forest not seen
there for thousands of years. They have planted a million trees,
and others are coming up volunteer style. Gaviotans have also
found a remarkable solution to the problem of jealousy in
community - one we did not expect NPR to report. And they've
found a way to make children enjoy what was once a chore like
pumping water. We called Gaviota's Bogota office and put their
