Harlan Band

What's Harlan's problem, anyway? The guy's handsome, athletic, smart; a natural born leader. So why is he so cranky all the time? And what does he have against Andromedans like Radu, his fellow Space Case? Harlan is at the helm of the Space Cases' ship. The ship won't respond to Commander Goddard, so Harlan does the steering while he (usually) follows Goddard's orders. Taking charge comes naturally to Harlan, and he knows it. He doesn't like getting orders from others. So it's kind of tough for him to deal with Commander Goddard, even if he'd like to be a commander himself someday.

Vital Statistics:
Height: 5'10 (Alien/Earth Standard)
Weight: 170 lbs
Birthday: September 23, 2243 (Earth standard)
Homeworld:
Earth, the Island Metropolis of Los Angeles. Residents of this floating city are quite good at keeping their balance, and therefore make good Stardog candidates.
Powers:
Incredible gymnast. Holds a blackbelt in karate. His skill at hand-to-hand combat is almost sufficient to let him hold his own in a fight against Radu, who has ten times his physical strength.
Relationships:
Harlan used to be in conflict with Radu, because his father was killed by Andromedans during the war; but now he is getting on much better with Radu. Feels Suzee is really attractive. Thinks of Bova as a kid brother.
Family:
Harlan's father was a legendary (or so he claims) Stardog officer killed in the Spung/Andromedan War. A few years after his father's death, Harlan's mother remarried Stardog Admiral Cody. Harlan does not get along well with the Admiral, who never believed that Harlan had the right stuff to become a Stardog. Harlan's ancestor, Joshua Band, was a slave in Georgia in the 19th century who escaped to freedom, worked on the undeground railroad helping other slaves escape, and then became a famous explorer. His great-grandfather was on the mission that made first contact with the Rigelians.
FYI:
Because Harlan's Stardog father was killed in the Spung/Andromedan War, Harlan has a deep-seated hostility toward Andromedans. But he's come to respect Radu and doesn't argue with him quite so much anymore.
