Upon its own initiative, the Christa brought aboard Dram, an elderly gentleman who believed himself to be a knight of Cervantes, and who tried to protect the crew from a soul-sucking monster that would leech the crew's energy and will to live. Catalina became quite fond of him because of his noble spirit.
But when the crew examined Dram's cryopod, they discovered that he was a very rich and well respected man from one of the outer rim colonies, who suffered from a terminal illness that affected his mind and gave him delusions of knighthood. Eventually, his behavior became so irrational that his daughter Mira (who bore a remarkable resemblance to Catalina) was required to send him to a medical facility at Tau Ceti to be cared for until he died. En route, his ship was attacked and destroyed, and he was put in an escape pod in suspended animation, where he remained for several years before the Christa took him in.
Dram died stabbing the engines with his sword, thinking he was battling a dragon and saving the crew.
