Information:

Mattheus DuBois went to Kingston with his father and mother when he was 7 years old. In 1695 he bought from his father a house and lot at Kingston and also ½ of a tract in Hurley then in possession of his brother Jacob. By this sale he was to come into possession of the property at Kingston after the death of his father and mother and after he became 21. Matthew retained his father's homestead in Kingston only until 1731 when he sold it to Matthew E. Thompson. Over a century afterward, Elijah DuBois, a great-great-grandson purchased the property, bringing it back into DuBois' ownership.

Mattheus was a freeholder of Kingston in 1728 (Doc. Hist. Of N.Y.) and village trustee in 1725.

In 1730 he and his family moved to the Town of Poughkeepsie, purchasing from Andrew Teller 1337 acres of land on Wappinger's Creek, being part of the Francis Rombout Patent. Additional purchases within the next two years brought his holdings to over 2000 acres. His son Johannes was the only one of this family to remain in Kingston. Matthew DuBois was Justice in Dutchess County in 1734. In 1744 he, with others, signed a call for a minister to come from Holland to the Poughkeepsie Church.
