I've always been fascinated by sailboats. When I was a kid growing up in Oregon, I didn't have any opportunities to learn to sail. In fact, it wasn't until 1995 when I stepped on a friend's Benetau 30 that I had any first-hand experience on a sailboat. Since then, sailing has become my summer hobby and one of my passions. I started sailing on my friend's boat every Friday. That progressed to sailing on Wednesdays and weekends on a C&C 40, and culminated with the purchase of my own Catalina 22 named Alt Escape in 1997. Since then, I've owned two more boats, increasing in size each time.

In the average year, I'll race most Wednesday nights on the Magothy River, a few weekend races on the Chesapeake Bay, and try to go out sailing (non-racing) a few times each summer.

  • Alt Escape a Catalina 22 and my first boat. I had her from 1997-1999
  • Dharma Bum was a Catalina 27. I purchased Dharma Bum in August 1999 and sailed her for the next five years. I had great fun with this boat, but finally "outgrew" her in 2004. I tried to sell her, but couldn't. So, I eventually donated her to CRAB.
  • Japhy's Spirit is a 1982 C&C 34
