GlobeTiles is a utility for creating EPD scenery files for Terminal Realities
Fly! flight simulator. Designed to work in
conjunction with TerraScene
or satellite scenery, it simplifies the creation of POD files on a global tile
boundary.
What's a global tile?
Fly organizes the world into global tiles and quarter global tiles. Each global tile
is a square area equal to about 1.4 degrees of longitude. Each global tile is further
divided into quarters. The boundaries of these "quarter global" tiles are important to
scenery developers. Only one set of scenery can exist within a quarter global tile.
To make scenery files modular, they must be packaged into EPD files on quarter tile
boundaries.
How does GlobeTiles help?
GlobeTiles gives you an easy to use GUI interface for selecting scenery on global tile
boundaries and packaging it into EPD files. No need to mess with deleting files or
creating .SCN files in DOS
What's new in this version?
- Limit the size of POD files
You can now set the largest POD file GlobeTiles can make, either a full or
quarter global tile. If your scenery area is bigger, GlobeTiles will
automatically break it up into smaller POD files.
GlobeTiles features
- Easy EPD creation
- Automatically select files on global tile boundaries
- Instantly see incomplete tiles
- Trim night lights for smaller file sizes
- Create separate day and night EPDs
- SCF file created to match EPD boundaries
- Randomize generic textures for use with Ground Control

Additional files you may need
To keep the download size small, GlobeTiles does not include updates for all the
shared libraries it needs to run. Most people will already have these libraries
installed on their systems from other products. There are two common errors from
older or missing libraries:
- GlobeTiles will not start at all, message box says "missing exports"
- This is caused by having an older version of MFC.
Download the latest MFC
- GlobeTiles crashes in COMCTL32 when scanning the directory
- This only happens when you have an older version of Internet Explorer installed.
If you don't want to upgrade your Internet Explorer you can
download
an updated COMCTL from Microsoft.
