Opening Data from the CD
1. Start the MICRODEM program.

2. Select the
icon on the left side of the toolbar. An
"Open new DEM" file open dialog box will appear.
Navigate to the "Map data" directory on the CD, and
select the "DTED index.DIX" or the
"GTOPO30index.DIX" file.

3. A map of the world appears, with the available GTOPO30 data shown here. The coverage map for DTED Level 0 shows gaps but behaves in exactly the same fashion.
4. Select the Subset
button on the DEM
selection map toolbar.

5. Move the mouse to the NW corner of the region you want to zoom in to, and then drag the mouse to the SE corner.

6. A blow up of the desired region will appear.
7. Pick the "DEM" button on the right side of the toolbar. Move the mouse to the NW corner of the region you want to load, and then drag the mouse to the SE corner. The program will inform you if you try to load too large a region.

8. The DEM cells for the region will be merged, and a map will appear. You can now use the analytic and viewing capabilities of MICRODEM. Check out the program's help file, with the product gallery to give you ideas on how to get started.
