DTED Level 0

Global Digital Elevation Model

DTED Level 0 is a global digital elevation model produced by the National Imagery and Mapping Agency. It can be downloaded from the WWW. You should be aware that NIMA has a legal disclaimer about DTED which we are obligated to pass on. We have reformatted the data set to fit on a single CD, and to provide an easy to use, graphical interface to select and display data. Our reformatting removes the average, minimum, and maximum grid files, the DMED files, and the text files. We retain only the DT0 files, and an index created by the MICRODEM program. This enables the entire DTED Level 0 archive to fit on a single CD-ROM.

The map below contains gaps; we have been unable to download that data despite repeated attempts and believe that most of it is missing from the NIMA web page.

Data is bright green represents downsampled DTED Level 1, while the dark green has been created from the Digital Chart of the World.

The following programs are included on the CD-ROM:

• MICRODEM, a freeware terrain viewer. This is the latest official release posted on the web page. This program is updated frequently, and you should check the web site for new versions.
• MICRODEM_DEBUG, a freeware terrain viewer. This version creates a debug log file that can be submitted to the program's author to track down problems. This program is updated frequently, and you should check the web site for new versions.
