DEMconvert Program

The shareware program DEMconvert is designed to work with MICRODEM, a freeware terrain viewer. It will read Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) in the following formats:

• NIMA DTED
• USGS ASCII
• USGS SDTS
• NOS and NGDC bathymetry in several formats
• CDED (Canadian Digital Elevation Data)
• UK OS
• ASCII XYZ triples
• 16 bit GEOTIFF

Like MICRODEM, DEMconvert can perform the following manipulations with DEMs:

• Merge: combine a number of DEMs into a single DEM. When done with a DEM index, selection of DEMs can be done graphically.
• Thin: subsample a DEM, to create larger data sets at lower resolution.
• Subset: extract a rectangle from a larger DEM.
• Export: the program can export to the following formats:
  • USGS ASCII
  • ASCII XYZ
  • DXF 3D shapes
  • OBJ 3D shapes
