Rolling on the river... This is the tow boat JASON on the Allegheny River north of Pittsburgh, PA circa 1948. The signage at the front says Union Barge Line.
The Jason later became the Thunderbird nightclub and was docked on the Allegheny near Blawnox, PA. The Thunderbird burnt to the waterline sometime in the 1960's, but the hull was salvaged by Bob Brown River Salvage and is in use as an equipment barge and is docked near Springdale PA.
Bob Brown donated the paddlewheel from the Jason to Station Square and it is on public
display there with other industrial artifacts. Station Square is located just below the historic Smithfield Street Bridge on Pittsburgh's Southside.
