This is a list of books
we considered important for every bird collector to have as reference material.
Reference:
Author:
Mike Schneider
Book
Title: Stangl and Pennsbury Birds;Identification
& Price Guide
Publisher:
Schiffer Publishing, 77 Lower Valley Road, Atglen, PA 19310
(1994)
This
book is the definitive pictorial "bird book". Although the
pricing is very outdated (1994), the information is critical and the pictures
are excellent. This book is a must have for any serious collector
of birds.
Author:
Harvey Duke
Book
Title: Stangl Pottery
Publisher:
Wallace-Homestead Book Company, Radnor, PA, 19089
(1993)
This
book is also a must have for those who collect birds. Harvey
Duke covers all items made by Stangl Pottery in this book, but the bird
information is excellent. There are pictures of birds that are not
in other books and there are birds that there are only one or two of known
to exist. Again, the pricing is outdated, but the information, pictures
and background is extremely relevant to any collector.
Author:
Joan Dworkin and Martha Horman
Book
Title: A Guide to Stangl Pottery Birds
Publisher:
Willow Pond Books, Inc., POB 385, Lynbrook, NY 11563
(1977)
This
is the third "must have" for serious collectors. This book is a beautiful
pictorial of the Stangl Bird series and does have some limited information
in the beginning of the publication. This is a "must have" because
there are again some birds identified with pictures that are not in other
books and it is a must have for the rarity of this publication.

In addition to these
Stangl books, we recommend that you obtain some type of recent antique
pricing guide book. We recommend:

Book
Title: Schroeder's Antiques Price Guide 2000

Another
pricing guide book which we recommend is:
Author:
Harvey Duke
Book
Title: Official Price Guide to Pottery and
Porcelain 8th Edition
Publisher:
Random House, 201 E.50th St., NY, NY 10022 (1995)
The
pricing in this book is outdated, but it has pricing for every bird.
It is an interesting reference from only 4 years ago.
Nice
to have, but not necessary books:

This site does not intend
for this list to be all inclusive of everything that has been written about
Stangl Pottery Birds. This page is designed to guide new and old
collectors about reference material that is available on Birds.
This is the appropriate
spot to thank each and every one of these authors for their contributions
to the collecting of Stangl Birds. The founding members of this site
recognize and appreciate all these people have done to research and further
the history of these wonderful creatures. A big thanks to all of
you !!!!
In addition to our thanks,
by way of this statement we are crediting all of these authors and books
as a reference for our site -- when we didn't know something, these are
the books we turned to. |
