Is Lisa THE BEST or what?
How many brides would let their grooms jam for two hours at the wedding? Kyle played drums with four acts and guitar with a fifth, though there are pictures of only the first four (sorry Josh, but where was Jon?). Naturally, the first jam act, The Young Turks, stole the show. |
|
| The act | The lineup | Critical Acclaim |
|---|---|---|
| The Mercenaries Click for pix |
The paid pros: Bobby Lenti, guitar and vocals; Joe Mekler, drums; Bennie Goldstein, bass and vocals; John Barry, keyboards | Led by bassist, Ben Goldstein, who runs the blues jam that I go to most Wed nights at Connie Mack's in Pennsauken, NJ |
| The Young Turks Click for pix |
The Mercenary Band lead by Jonathan Kaufman on Alto Sax and Max Cooper on Trumpet | The rest of the bands didn't have a chance after these guys conducted their clinic. What an act to try to follow! |
| Fat Lewy Click for pix |
David Hodge, lefty guitar, vocals; Bill 'Sups' Supplitt, righty guitar, vocals; Roy Wogelius, bass; Groom, drums & (yikes!) vocals | Defunct for 18 years, and they sound it, but it sure seemed like they were having a good time |
| The Roth Brothers Band Click for pix |
Douglas DSmash Roth, guitar & vocals; Bennie (the Mercenary) Goldstein, bass; Adam Roth, stage right drums; da groom, stage left drums and still more intollerable vocals | First time ever in public, but they were gone before the cops showed up |
| The Redding Railroad Click for pix |
Blake Redding, guitar & vocals; Pappa Rick Redding, alto sax; David Tristram, keyboards; Bennie Goldstein, bass; Kyle and Adam Roth on drums, Kyle and Phil Kemelor (not shown) Latin percussion | Father and son's first time playing together in public, but they seemed like they had been doing it for a lifetime |
| The Allen Meck All-Stars Pictures Soon |
Allen Meck, mean blues guitar; Bennie, bass; Kyle and Adam, drums, Kyle and
Phil Kemelor, percussion |
The first time Allen EVER played in public or with a band anywhere. Wow! Where has this guy been all these years? |
| The Original Allentown Psychadelic Jam Kings Sorry, no pix |
Kyle on acoustic guitar and vocals; D Smash and Joshua Schultz on electric guitars and vocals; Bennie (hey, did I save the show or what?) Goldstein, bass and vocals; Adam and special guest, Nik Everett, on drums | The classic lineup from years gone by, supplemented by bass and drums for the first time ever. Fortunately, Bennie knew the words 'cause Kyle's voice was history |
