My Ham Radio Interests

The Ham Radio
Biography
- I have been
an Amateur Radio (aka "ham") operator since I
was 14 years old. I first became interested in the hobby
after learning the Morse Code as a requirement for my
First Class Boy Scout badge. My first
license was a Novice "ticket" and my callsign
was WN1EOT. After less than a year I upgraded to the
General Class license and I dropped the "N" in
the call and became WA1EOT. Over the first 15 years as a
"ham" (yikes!) I upgraded my license by taking
more FCC code tests and
technical exams. In 1989 I finally decided to shorten my
callsign and got WA1G. This call I kept for 6 years until I have now
finally become K1AJ and that's
it
for callsign changes! I have now been a radio amateur for 41 years.
-
- Over the
years, I have done traffic handling, emergency
preparedness, disaster assistance, helped others become
hams and been involved in many aspects of the hobby. I
enjoy contesting, DXing, Field Day, the Dayton Hamvention™, CW (.wav file of
my CW fist) operating, packet
radio and some QRPing.
