Cutting the purfling groove.
A double bladed marking tool is pulled along the edge to make a shallow cut. This is deepened with the knife and cleaned out with a tiny chisel (a "purfling picker"). (That's my daughter's hand holding the knife.) Next time I will do the corners and the back button area by hand but will use a router everywhere else. The arching here is nearly final except for the channel (that is, a deepening of the arch just inside the edge and all the way around).
