The blocks are lightly glued to the mold. Notice the three screws used to raise the mold above the flat glass surface so the blocks are centered.
The front and back surfaces of the blocks are sanded flat using a sanding board. This board has large sheets of sandpaper mounted on a hard flat surface (a glass cutting board was used). The mold and blocks are slid back and forth on this surface until the front and back surfaces are flat. The blocks are cut and sanded so that the thickness tapers from about 32 mm at the bottom to 30 mm at the top.
