I was born and raised in
Brookline, attending Resurrection School and South Hills Catholic High
School. Summers were spent playing baseball at the Community Center, and
I enjoyed a brief stint in Boy Scout Troop 6 under Mr. Duffy. I graduated
in 1983 from Point Park College with a bachelors degree in Computer
Science and two years of Air Force ROTC training at the University of
Pittsburgh.
My Air Force career never took
flight, and I wound up in Columbus, Ohio working as a Network Analyst
for JCPenney. Ten years of my life were spent in the "Buckeye State"
trying to get excited about Ohio State football and facing a choice
between the Bengals or the Browns as my "team of choice". This was one
choice I never made. How could a true Pittsburgh Steeler fan take such
punishment? My only consolation was when the Steelers whomped the Brownies
and the Bungles. Then Joe Paterno brought Penn State to the Big
Ten and started beating up the Buckeyes. Things were looking up but there
always seemed to be something missing...Pittsburgh!
In 1994, JCPenney restructured
their data center and my marriage came to an inglorious conclusion.
After declining an opportunity to transfer to Dallas, Texas, I found
myself back where I belonged, in Pittsburgh looking for a new job. I
don't miss the Ohio State band, their "Sloopy" song, or the lack of
respectable professional Ohio sports franchises, but I did leave behind
a huge piece of my heart with my daughter Morgan, who still lives in
Columbus.
From 1994 through 2001 I worked
for Giant Eagle in their Network Control Center. In January of 2001 I
left the supermarket business over some Iggle Idiocy. That August I
began working part-time for the Department of Parks and Recreation at
the Brookline Recreation Center, and in October of the same year I
began working full-time for ACS, Inc. as a Network Operator at their
data center in Robinson Township. The irony that I am now working for
a company headquartered in Dallas, Texas has not escaped
me.
In the eight years that I have
spent back here in Pittsburgh, I have been busy working with the local
kids. From 1998 through 2001 I coached "Morgan's", a Senior Little
League team that Morgan and I sponsored. When Senior League baseball
was discontinued, "Morgan's" became a Little League team. With my
work at the Rec Center taking up most of my free time, I had to quit
coaching baseball after the 2001 season. Now, my friend Rocky and I
are busy with our new basketball league, which started in the summer
of 2002. After a great first season, Rocky, myself, and our co-worker
Skibby Mazzeo were honored by the City with a proclamation naming
November 19, 2002 as Clint Burton, Leonard Wells and Bobby Mazzeo Day
in the City of Pittsburgh. Now ain't that cool!!!
In addition to the baseball
and basketball activities, I also spent a couple years working with
the Brookline Community Council, the Brookline Knights Football team,
and the Brookline Youth Soccer Association. I also initiated a website
for the Brookline Community, called the "Brookline Connection." Although I no longer work on the website,
the four-year project was a lot of fun and the effort had a positive
effect on the community. The feedback I received from Brookliners from
around the country made it "time well spent." It also helped me
re-establish many old friendships, as well as develop new ones. It
helped me fulfill a desire to give something back to the community
I love, Brookline.
I like most sports, play
with computers, excel at war-gaming, and enjoy a good book. Most of all
I love spending time with Morgan. |
