Here are my grandparents, Sal and Rege Burton, at their 50th wedding anniversary in 1982. The Burton's spent sixty years on Prospect Street in Castle Shannon, where they raised their four children: Ron, Jerry, Bill and Carol. Rege spent most of his life working in the retail sales business, and for a short time operated an A&P grocery store on Brookline Boulevard. Sal spent most of her time caring for the children, then the grandchildren, and once they had grown, sharing her caring touch with the neighborhood kids.

Sal passed away in September, 1995, and since 1997 Rege has lived in Dormont. Now sidelined by the dreaded facts of old age, Rege was once a standout golfer who was still stroking bogey rounds into his early 80's. His shining moment came when he joined the elusive "Hole-In-One" club.
