We, who
call First Presbyterian and Trinity
Church our home, are a community seeking to follow Jesus Christ. We are diverse people with regard to age, race, ethnic origin, life style and economic condition but are
one in our desire to follow Jesus Christ in the path of love, justice and peace.
The central activity of our common life is worship. We engage in theological inquiry and study. We strive to nurture
each other in our faith journeys. We work with God to bring the world into harmony
with God. As our Service of Ordination proclaims: “We are a ministry of
reconciliation led by the risen Christ…. We work and pray to make His church useful in the world.” Blessed with a rich variety of gifts – energy, talents, dedication, wide-ranging resources –
we try to witness as disciples of Jesus Christ. We are called to provide illumination
of a higher truth and righteousness, a people not content to see only what we now see.
For this reason we call ourselves a “More Light” church, and we seek to discover what more is required
to bring greater unity and wholeness to all created life. We believe there is no place, no private situation nor public arena, where the church has no right to be
involved. We deny no one the opportunity for full participation in the life,
worship and leadership of this congregation.
Our outreach strives to be ecumenical, compassionate, far-reaching,
ongoing and totally inclusive.
Our mission includes activating the Bible verbs: “go”…”do”…”teach”…”pray”…”live,”
and to lift life out of the passive into the passionate. All this to the glory
of God, who gives us the richness of the incarnate word and each other.
