Savate
and Boxe-Francaise in West Africa
Savate in west Africa was present long before 1970s. The French sailors had brought the Chausson way back in the 17 and 18s.
In 1970s (France registered professor
of sport and FIBFSDA savate professor) Pr. Guerin brought the French form
of Savate to the Ivory Coast. The first club: Club SODECI registered the
first 6 students. Two of the original students are now Savate professors:
Pr. Leonard Kouame and Pr. Jean-Noel Eynard. Both received their professorship
under the famous Bob Alix (former DTN of the FFBFSDA) by training in Vichy
(Preolympic Center), France and Voiron, France.

In 1975, Pr. Guerin was instrumental
in the formation of the league of Savate box-Francaise under the umbrella
of the Federation Ivoirienne of Judo.
(Pr. Guerin was also a master of
Judo, Lutte parrisienne, Canne and Baton.)
Pr. Kouame took over the leadership of the Savate League following the departure of Pr Guerin to Marrocco, and with the help of the FIBFSDA and the Ivory Coast government allowed to bring in multiple times French Federation State Certified Professors of Sport Section BF-Savate (BEES E.N.). In the 1980s the Federation Ivoirienne of BF Savate was born. Pr. Kouame was instrumental in the formation of this Federation.
Also since then, several west african savateurs have won French and european titles in Savate.
