IN THE BEGINNING

                (John 1:1)

In the beginning was the Word

And it was God, and it was good.

Then God created man.

It was His plan

For brotherhood,

But, man, he chose the wrong

And sin was strong.

We had to leave where we belong.

And the rest is history –

What had to be

To set us free.

In the beginning was the Word

And it was Jesus, and He was good.

When He came down from above,

Because of love,

He understood

That nothing else would suffice

But sacrifice;

And so He chose to pay the price.

And to die for you and me

Upon the tree

Of Calvary.

In the beginning was the Word

And it was Spirit, and it was good!

And it filled all those who heard

And who believed,

Just like He said it would.

Then the few became a throng

And spread the song,

“Hallelujah! We belong!”

For the Father, through the Son,

Has said, “Well done!”

And made us One.

Hallelujah! And Amen!

That which was lost

Is home again!
