| Spring-Summer 2004 Dear Human Resources Department, I would like to apply for Instructional Technology teaching positions
that are available in your school system. Currently I am a Technology Educator/Coordinator at the Young Achievers School, grades K-8, a Boston Public School. My role is to coordinate technology education for the entire school. I collaborate with elementary teachers to integrate technology into all curriculum areas and team teach with them. I also teach my own technology classes to grades 6-8. My other responsibilities include managing the network, software, hardware, curriculum development, future technology planning, and all other technology matters. I developed the Young Achievers web site, a database driven site using Coldfusion. The site also features a web client for creating, editing, and updating teacher and staff web pages within Young Achievers School site, school calendars, group email, homework calendar, and more. I am being laid off from my current grant funded position. Prior to teaching at the Young Achievers School, I was a Teacher of Instructional Technology at Excel High School, Boston Public Schools. At Excel High School I taught Web Development, Tech Literacy, and Advanced Technical Presentation courses. I also have extensive high tech industry experience as a Web Developer, technical trainer, network person, and other related jobs and roles at Akamai Technologies and Workgroup Technology. I am currently certified in Massachusetts in Early Childhood Education and I am expecting certification in Instructional Technology this summer. I am enrolled in the Masters of Instructional Technology program at Bridgewater State College. I have used technology extensively in my classes and played a major role in training other teachers and assisting them with the integration of technology into their curriculum. At Young Achievers School and Excel High School I was instrumental in developing the school technology plan and took the initiative to research many new technologies and applications for the school. Some examples of technologies that I researched, tested, and ultimately implemented into the school are Lanschool, Mediator Pro CD Rom creation software, Coldfusion, Fortres 101, and Fortres Central Control. While at Excel High School I was the Technical Support Teacher for the school and have conducted numerous staff training sessions. I also used digital video extensively with my students. Many students
worked on a special project entitled "Issues of Homelessness, Teachers
and Students Explore Causes and Solutions." Students worked on filming
the many activities that we did over the course of seven months. Please

out of the School to Career Learn and Serve project. In addition, I have filmed and edited two high school promotional movies,
"The High Schools at South Boston" and "Odyssey High School, Science
in the City". For our projects we used professional level video camcorders
and non linear, real time, broadcast quality, digital video editing
using Adobe Premier and DV Storm RT. While teaching at Excel High School
I developed the school web site using Coldfusion and advanced database
web development techniques. The site also features a Coldfusion application
that I developed that gives teachers and staff the opportunity to create,
edit, and update web pages within the Excel High School site. While teaching first grade in Winchester I created The First Grade Home Page for the Internet/World Wide Web. It was a web site for first graders, other children, and adults and features actual stories, poems, and illustrations by first graders as well as educational information about the writing process and early literacy teaching methods. My areas of expertise include technology related to web development and design, Adobe Photoshop, Macromedia Dreamweaver, Adobe GoLive, and networking including knowledge of server configuration and router configuration. I installed Windows 2000 Server and an FTP Server for my class and established a network for my class using routers, switches, hubs, and crossover cables. I have expertise in web development and design, multimedia, non-linear film editing, filming in digital format, Coldfusion development, SQL, streaming media, technical training, and distance learning. I have also worked as a Web Developer at Akamai Technologies where I developed for and maintained Akamai's public web sites and Akamai's Intranet. At Akamai I implemented streaming media for their public and internal sites, encoded and edited streaming movies, wrote, filmed, and edited training films, created Coldfusion applications, developed various projects for Akamai's intranet, and worked with servers in a Unix and NT environment. In addition, I coordinated intranet publishers and conducted training sessions for employees in the use of the intranet web-publishing tool. Another site that I developed was Stream the Movie Productions. It is a streaming media, editing, and filming web site that specializes in making movies for the web. This includes encoding for streaming, editing movies, creating training movies for distance learning, and integrating Power Point slide shows with a presenter streamed in one frame with a synchronized slide show in the other frame. The site is database driven that was written using SQL and Coldfusion. It also features an on-line web client for creating new pages and editing existing pages for the site.
