Tai Chi Chuan is a martial
art that specializes in maintaining balance (mental & physical)
while using internal (core) strength to counterattack. Qigong can
be thought of as a Chinese system of Yoga encompassing physical
and mental practice. Tai Chi and Qigong have been shown to reduce
fall risk, improve balance, increase strength, reduce mental stress,
maintain bone density, reduce blood pressure post myocardial infarction,
improve cardiorespiratory fitness and reduce arthritis pain while
improving function and quality of life. This tradition has clear
application for body mechanics and lumbar stability for chronic
low back pain, addressing stress and urge incontinence, hip pain,
knee pain, shoulder pain, neck pain and repetitive strain injuries.
Qigong can be thought of as a Chinese system of Yoga
encompassing physical, mental and spiritual practice. Qigong taught
by Bill Gallagher includes techniques employed to quiet the mind
and reduce tension, as well as techniques associated with Tai Chi
Chuan and other Chinese internal martial arts including Xingjiquan
(Hsing I Chuan, Hsing Yi) and Baguazhang (Pa Kua Chang).
