Radio show host, concert organizer and synthesist Chuck van Zyl will perform a live concert of electronic soundscapes, while yoga instructors lead attendees in therapeutic stretching and posing, within the remarkable setting of The Philadelphia Museum of Art on Friday 2 January 2009.

Chuck van Zyl Best known as host of STAR'S END (WXPN's renowned radio program of spacemusic dreamscapes) and as coordinator of The Gatherings (Philadelphia's premiere concert series of innovative music), Chuck van Zyl has also been making his own unique style of electronic music since 1985. His solo concert at Art After 5 will feature van Zyl's trademark mastery of synthesized timbres and ethereal atmospheres. The unique setting of PMA's Great Stair Hall will provide plenty of room to savor each gorgeously sculpted tone. Never thin, always uncluttered, sumptuous minor key drones and spare melodies will sonically compliment the yoga moves being carried out within the performance space.

Sometimes referred to as "the children of space", Chuck van Zyl's generation of musicians are more than just carrying on an earlier tradition. Seeing creativity as a component of his own personal spirituality, van Zyl's realizations are fueled by everything from music technology to a greater cosmic awareness. His musical sensibilities evoke a sense of discovery, with each concert marking a new frontier of sound.

Presently, Chuck van Zyl continues to plot and execute the weekly broadcasts of the STAR'S END radio program, plan and produce events in The Gatherings Concert Series, realize original works in his electronic music studio, play live concerts with his friend Art Cohen and their group The Ministry of Inside Things and investigate visual arts through his highly personal photographic style.

Chuck van Zyl will perform as part of the Art After 5 series at The Philadelphia Museum of Art on Friday 2 January 2009 from 5pm to 8:45pm in the Great Stair Hall of The Philadelphia Museum of Art, 26th Street & The Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia, PA.
