The trellis can be covered with
reemay covering, plastic or heavy
cloth to form a mini greenhouse or cold frame as shown in the above
photo. The Waterboy Garden Trellis in this photo is covered with reemay, a covering that protects from frost and allows air and
water to reach the plants and soil under the covering, as the weather
warms up and all danger of frost
has passed I remove the covering.
The covering can also be used to
prolong the growing season by
recovering the plants in the fall.

After I remove the trellis covering I adjust the plant support strings that
run from the bottom watering rail
to the top rail and begin tying up
the plants to the support strings
as you would normally tie your
plants to a stake or post. The
above photo shows my young
tomato crop as they begin to grow
up the trellis. When the season has
ended I cut the top and bottom
support string, pull out the plant
and compost the plants and string.
This makes for a neat, quick and easy garden clean up.
