What amount of lessons and length of lessons are appropriate?

How do you know what amount of lessons and length of lessons are appropriate? I have recently decided to change my daughter's coach and before I hire anyone else I need some advice regarding this as I feel we had been receiving too much coaching and the stress was getting to my 8 year old. Thank you, Sparks

Marcia's Mom says:
Sparks, Many people differ on this question. I feel that #1 your child has to have time to practice what she has been taught. Why pay a coach to watch her practice? #2, some kids that are 'coached' every lesson are not able to work on their own. They need to be able to do this especially as they get better and their ice time increases and their coach's availabiltiy might be limited. The length of lessons depends on whether or not the skater goes into the lesson warmed up or not. If the warm up is part of the lesson (depending on their level) then they need more time. Watch your skater's progression and she really shouldn't be stressed, this is supposed to be FUN! Good Luck!

Linda says:
How much coaching time is very individual. You do know that the amount of time you had in the past was too much so you can use that as a guide. It may be better to start off with much less time and add time if you feel it is necessary. Ask the new coach how much time is recommended for lessons and adjust from there. If the recommended time is too much, be honest and explain the reasons and ask if you can start with less time.
