Dear Friends,

The last few months have been so exciting, it’s hard to tell what to write first. Since our last newsletter we’ve spent a month visiting East Wind community and other groups. We feel an urgent need to relocate to a rural community. There’s a crisis that is mostly concealed by major media
. Yet, there’s a really great future ahead.

CULTURAL COLLAPSE SOON ?

Naturally, owners of banks and media and owners of senators and presidents don’t want a run on the banks, a financial collapse for which they are not yet prepared, so why should they tell everyone all they know ?

But others who care are telling the truth. They are just not believed yet. But we’ve had hundreds of reports that indicate a very grave situation.. “Y2K” = the “Year 2000 Computer Problem”, which is that we’ve only used 2 digits for the year for BILLIONS of lines of computer programs and computers can’t read a year “00”. Please read this: All uncorrected programs will FAIL in 1999, affecting transportation, communication and energy and more! Ed Yardeni is now telling the truth to world bankers. See this:

Here is what the press is saying about Dr. Ed Yardeni:

1.ABC World News Tonight (Jan. 2, 1998): "He is the best economic forecaster in the country." His "predictions for 1997 were right on the money."
2.The Wall Street Journal (Jan. 2, 1998): He "did the best job of forecasting the nation's economy" in 1997.
3.Barron's (Nov. 3, 1997): "Few, if any, market seers have had a better stock-market forecasting record over the past decade than Yardeni. Not only has he been dead on in getting the dimension of the bull market right, he was among the first on Wall Street to grasp the importance of several bullish developments: themes like the technology-led productivity revolution and epochal unleashing of productive forces and consumer demand that the global triumph of free-market principles."
4.Investor's Business Daily (Sep. 18, 1997): He is "one of the top market forecasters of the decade."
5.Barron's (cover story, Aug. 4, 1997): "WALL STREET WIZARD: More than any other strategist, Ed Yardeni had been right on the stock market and the economy."
6.Institutional Investor (Sep. 1997): He is one of "the 20 most important players on the financial Web."
7.Smart Money ranks him as one of the top market pundits.
8.Institutional Investor Poll: He consistently places among the most respected economists in the nation.
9.His web site, www.yardeni.com, has won numerous awards.

Dr. Yardeni is the Chief Economist and a Managing Director of Deutsche Morgan Grenfell (North America). Working from the firm's headquarters in New York City, he writes the Weekly Economic Analysis, Weekly Economic Briefing, and Y2K Reporter, as well as a variety of topical studies. In these publications, Dr. Yardeni explores issues and trends in the economy and financial markets that are vital to a broad spectrum of decision-makers.
Dr. Yardeni previously served as Chief Economist for C.J. Lawrence, Prudential Securities, and E.F. Hutton. He taught at Columbia University's Graduate School of Business, and was an economist with the Federal Reserve
Bank of New York. He also held positions at the Federal Reserve Board of Governors and the U.S. Treasury Department in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Yardeni completed his Ph.D. dissertation under Professor James Tobin, a Nobel Laureate, at Yale University. Previously, he received from Yale a masters degree in international relations. He completed his undergraduate studies magna cum laude at Cornell University. Dr. Yardeni has published articles in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and Barron's. He writes monthly for Nikkei Financial Daily and Nikkei Business. He has appeared on numerous television and radio shows, including Wall Street Week and CNN's Moneyline.

"IT IS TIME TO DECLARE WAR ON Y2K But it would be foolhardy not to prepare for the possibility of failures. Every organization must put in place contingency plans in case failures occur in its own systems or in other people's." -Prime Minister (of England) Tony Blair. Now to Dr. Yardeni:

“I would like to thank the Bank for International Settlements for the opportunity to discuss the Year 2000 Problem with so many distinguished representatives of the global banking and financial community tonight.

“On March 4 this year, I was interviewed by Peter Jennings on ABC World News Tonight about the Year 2000 Problem (Y2K). Preceding my sound bite, the nationally televised segment on this important issue raised the possibility of major failures in key US government services, including tax collection, welfare payments, nationaldefense, and air traffic control. Yet, in my 15 seconds of fame, Mr. Jennings asked me if I wasn't a bit of an alarmist with my forecast of a 40% chance of a global recession caused by Y2K: "Surely there's an element of crying wolf."

“The gist of my response was, and still is that I am an alarmist! In fact, I am becoming more alarmed: On March 16, I raised the recession odds to 60%.

“2) I am especially alarmed that so few other economists and policy makers are alarmed about Y2K. My goal tonight at this banking roundtable is to alarm all of you as much as possible. If you are already concerned, as I suspect most of you are by now, I hope to inspire you to maximize your efforts to prepare for the coming difficulties. Let's stop pretending that Y2K isn't a major threat to our way of life. There is too much at stake for such uninformed wishful thinking. Perhaps, the time has come to act as though we are preparing for a war. This may seem extreme and unnecessary. However, if we prepare for plausible worst-case Y2K scenarios, then perhaps we can avoid at least some of them.

“I do have a Y2K strategic plan to share with you tonight. It is not targeted at fixing the computer problem, but rather on preparing for the inevitable disruptions when the problem is not completely fixed in time. As representatives of the world's banking and financial community, you are in a position to prepare the public for the coming upheaval. You are already doing so in the banking and finance industry. I urge you to use your experience, influence, and power more broadly to influence top policy makers to take bolder measures.

“Here is my seven-point plan for your consideration during this very important gathering:

“1) Year 2000 Alliance. We should draft and sign a resolution insisting that the leaders of the Group of Eight (G8), at their May 15-17 meeting in Birmingham, form a Y2K Global Alliance to coordinate both national and multinational campaigns. The Alliance should be broadened to include all 29 members of the OECD and selected representatives of the United Nations.

“2) Commander In Chief. The Y2K Alliance could use the expertise of military personnel who should be involved because they have the necessary training and experience for marshaling and mobilizing resources for such a potentially huge global campaign. The G8 should appoint a Y2K Commander in Chief, for example, General Colin Powell.

“3) Military Fail-Safe System. Military leaders of the United States, other NATO members, and Russia must jointly assess the risk of an accidental nuclear missile launch or a provocative false alarm. They must rapidly develop a fail-safe joint communication and intelligence network to eliminate any such risk. Measures must be taken to thwart terrorists, hackers, and other malevolent opportunists from taking advantage of any Y2K chaos.

“4) Securing Infrastructure. Y2K Sector Alliances should be responsible for the Y2K campaigns in specific global sectors. The top priority must be to secure the supply of electricity worldwide. Other utilities, including water, gas, sanitation, and telecommunications, must also be secured. Contingency plans for rationing utility usage should be prepared. Other key sectors that may require a global "top-down" approach include government revenue collection and debt servicing, welfare payments, farming, manufacturing, mining, transportation, distribution, retailing, banking, and finance. Y2K "Industry Alliances" should have the power to organize and execute a cooperative and collective battle plan among the world's key industries, including, for example, food, drugs, chemicals, energy, security brokerage and exchanges.

“5) Change Freeze. Governments should freeze all legislative, regulatory, and information technology (IT) changes that might divert resources from the effort to prepare government and business computer systems for the century date change. The Industry Alliances should adopt a similar "change freeze."

“6) Mandatory Y2K Holiday The Y2K Alliance should consider requiring all nonessential employees to stay home during the first week of January 2000. Financial markets might have to be closed during this period. This global Y2K holiday would give IT personnel the opportunity to stress test their systems with a slow "reboot," rather than under peak load conditions. They could first test the integrity of basic utility services, especially electricity and telecommunications services. Then they could bring their own systems on-line in a phased sequence that can pinpoint weak links and either repair them quickly or take them immediately "off-line."

“7) Emergency Budget. The Year 2000 Alliance Accord should require all participants to fund a Y2K Emergency Budget with an initial minimum balance of $100 billion. They should be prepared to provide much more, if necessary. The budget should be spent on both last-ditch efforts to repair or replace key computer systems around the world and to implement contingency plans once the weakest links have been identified. Conceivably, the funds may be needed to purchase strategic stockpiles of fuel, food, and medical supplies.

“I expect there will be significant IT disruptions and failures in 2000. Some problems could start next year. I am convinced that a severe recession is the most likely outlook for the global economy in 2000. The recession could be at least as bad as the one during 1973-74, which was caused mostly by a disruption in the supply of oil. Information is just as vital as oil for running our economies. If information is harder to obtain, the amount of commercial and financial transactions, i.e., GDP, we can support will necessarily be reduced. How much might GDP fall? In the United States, it dropped 3.7% from peak to trough during 1973-74. Unfortunately, this might actually be an overly optimistic outlook if it turns out that our impaired IT systems can only support a much lower level of economic activity. Furthermore, a Year 2000 recession is bound to be deflationary. In the United States, a $1 trillion drop in nominal GDP and a $1 trillion loss in stock market capitalization are possible.

“The IT revolution of the past four decades has contributed greatly to our global prosperity. I recognize that there are some who question whether computers have really contributed to productivity. I have no such doubts. Without computers, none of our most dynamic companies would exist today. Microsoft, SAP, Dell, and Toshiba would not exist, nor would the jobs they've created. FedEx, Wal-Mart, and Deutsche Bank would exist today without computers, but they would all be much smaller. And, of course, governments could not play such large roles in our economies without IT systems. Our global and domestic markets for financial securities, commodities, products, and services depend completely on the smooth functioning of the vast IT infrastructure. Information is the life blood of our domestic and global markets. If the information flow is severely disrupted by Y2K, then markets will allocate and utilize resources inefficiently. Market participants will be forced to spend more time and money obtaining the information that was instantly available at almost no cost before the market was disrupted.

“The division of labor could be radically upset by Y2K. This process is the very foundation of economic prosperity and progress based on the exchange of goods and services produced as a result of our comparative advantage. We all either thrive, or have the potential to do so, by producing the goods and services that we are especially endowed, qualified, or trained to produce. We exchange the fruits of our labor for the goods and services that are better made by others.

“IT systems have expanded the size of the markets and the opportunities for an even greater division of labor. Just-in-time manufacturing, outsourcing, and globalization are the most obvious modern extensions of the division of labor. Now imagine a world in which those IT systems either are impaired or completely fail. Suddenly, we may all be forced to do without goods and services that can no longer be produced for us by others. We can attempt to make them ourselves, but in most cases this will be impossible. If it is possible, the cost and time of doing so will be enormous.

“There are no low-tech alternatives if our high-tech information systems fail in 2000. We simply cannot manually collect, sort, store, process, and analyze all the data we must have to support, let alone grow, our global economy.

“Why am I so sure that we will fail to have all our IT systems ready and that the disruptions will be severe enough to cause a major global recession, perhaps even a depression? Fixing and responding to the Y2K Problem requires a cooperative and collective approach which is rarely an outcome of the division of labor. The current Y2K global battle plan is virtually guaranteed to fail. It has at least seven major flaws:

“1. Unorganized. For starters, there is no plan. If there is one, it certainly isn't global at all, or even national. It is highly decentralized. Each company and government agency is responsible for fixing Y2K on its own. There are few industry alliances working to solve the problem collectively.

“2. Unaware. Even worse, there is no global campaign to maximize awareness of Y2K, and very few national efforts to alert the public.

“3. Uncontrolled. Each Y2K-fixing entity independently establishes a triage process to identify mission-critical versus noncritical systems. No authority, regulator, or industry association has defined the meaning of or established standards for thewidely misused term "mission critical."

“4. Unverified. Available resources are focused on fixing mission-critical systems, however defined. Y2K managers are free to reclassify mission-critical systems as noncritical. They might do this under the increasing pressure of the looming deadline to show more progress than is in fact possible to achieve. There is simply too little independent verification of progress.

“5. Unprotected. Computer systems exchange data all the time. Information systems and databases may easily be contaminated by data received from noncompliant or noncompatible Y2K systems.

“6. Untested. Even fixed systems could fail once they are stress tested in "real time." Most embedded chip systems probably won't be tested, let alone be fixed in time for the century date change.

“7. Unaccountable. Noncritical systems are either compliant or they are not. If not, Y2K managers must decide whether to fix them or to let them fail in 2000. Without a cooperative or collective approach, it is likely that some entities will doom noncritical systems that are actually mission critical to some of their external, and even internal dependents.

“This last point is crucially important: It is the ground-zero of the potential Y2K explosion.

“We all need to know if the products, services, information, orders jobs, incomes, and payments we depend on have been doomed by the triage decisions of those who provide them. If so, we might already be toast in 2000 and not know it in 1998 or even in 1999. My friends and colleagues, we must challenge the leaders of the Group of Eight nations to assure us at their next meeting that in the year 2000:
There will be no nuclear weapon mishaps.
All nuclear power plants will operate safely. So will other hazardous sites.
There will be no widespread blackouts or brownouts.
Health care services will be available to all who need it.
Welfare and social security payments will be made on a timely basis.
Air traffic control systems will be functioning properly and at full capacity.
The payments system and all financial markets will operate smoothly.

“If they can not make those assurances, then they must immediately declare war on Y2K! There is still time to act decisively and to minimize the disruptions. We have too much to lose if they fail to do so. We will lose much less if they attack the problem now.

“Indeed, I probably will raise the odds of a global recession closer to 100% if our leaders do not declare that Y2K is their top priority at the next G8 summit. What can we do on an individual basis? We must all be at least a small part of the solution, or else we will all surely be a big part of the problem.

“In the United States, the President's Commission on Critical Infrastructure Protection (PCCIP) was created on July 5, 1996 by Executive Order 13010 [http://www.pccip.gov/]. The stated reason for the order was the need to assure the uninterrupted operation of critical infrastructure. The commission was tasked with addressing vulnerabilities of eight different critical infrastructures: telecommunications, electric power systems, water supply systems, transportation, banking and finance, gas-oil storage and distribution, emergency services, and continuity of government. The PCCIP delivered its first report to the President on Wednesday, October 22, 1997 [http://www.pccip.gov/report_index.html]. It states that "solving the Year 2000 problem was not part of the commission's mission." The first sentence of Executive Order 13010 states, "Certain national infrastructure are so vital that their incapacity or destruction would have a debilitating impact on the defense or economic security of the United States. "[http://www.pccip.gov/eo13010.html]. Surely, Y2K represents such a clear and present danger. There is nothing in the order that limits the commission's authority to study and make recommendations about Y2K. ... [examples omitted -Art]

“ Only six countries have national Y2K awareness campaigns. A recent World Bank survey found only 37 out of 128 borrowing member countries said they were aware of Y2K. ...”

WHAT DO OTHERS THINK ?

The Christian communities we visited take this crisis most seriously and respected journalist Gary North, who has a Y2K website, is joining a new rural Christian community (near Shiloh) in NW Arkansas designed to save themselves and take in many others. Here’s a brief report of our trip:

After staying with Bill Perk, a protege of Bucky Fuller, we did a three-week visitor’s stay at East Wind community in MO. We found it a possible location but very bureaucratic. Joel liked it the best. He could work as he pleased and not bother about the bureaucracy as he’s 13. He helped with their computers and they appreciated his kitchen work. He also enjoys working with younger kids. So, now Judy is a provisional member there and I'm an "Associate" who would get no medical benefits but could live and work there, use my own car and leave freely, unlike a member. We still don't understand the bureaucracy of it all, though.

At the left is the house we stayed in while visiting EastWind. To the right is a glimpse of the famous EastWind Nutbutters factory. They roll out some good cashew/almond/peanut butters there.

There is a group meeting Monday evenings in a freer, non-bureaucratic way looking at making changes, but that's tough to do. That's the meeting where folks can really share what's on their hearts. In summary, EW has tremendous potential, but a long way to go to be a really free and loving community such as we seek. We may return unless we find something better. We’re still looking, but I feel time is getting very short.

On leaving , we took 10 East Wind folks to visit Shiloh, the Arkansas community that markets great bread. They are an old Christian group from 1942 and once had about 100 people. We were only there a day but they remembered me from my 2 week visit 30 years ago. Shiloh has lots of space which they also rent for conferences now, but all their folks are over 50. Their kids have gone elsewhere. When I get my pilot's license back, I hope to fly some Shiloh folks on visits to some other Christian communes and maybe they'll find some way to unite with others who have younger members. Shiloh might be a possible place for Aquarian Research.

This picture was taken of A bunch of EastWind folks together with Shiloh members.

After leaving East Wind, we stayed the night in Memphis with friends from the Rainbow Directory who were very loving. Joel learned Ukrainian egg-dyeing with homeschoolers there.

Moonshadow in the Tennessee Mountains

On the left, you see Patrick inside the greenhouse at Moonshadow. On the right is a picture of the family living at Moonshadow next to a fountain.

From Memphis, we drove across TN to Moonshadow, an environmental activist group near Chatanooga. Moonshadow is a family of 5 with some interns, not yet a community. Grandmother Nona (87), Johnny and Carol, their son Patrick and his fiancee Ashley and one intern, Anthony, were there while others were at a D.C. rally.

Moonshadow folks are aware of the coming crisis and are the most self-sufficient group I've seen. They have pure spring water in abundance in a very beautiful mountain setting, Chatanooga (25 miles away) is a free call so they have internet service. Also, their own solar electric power. They teach permaculture gardening to interns who can stay there for only $5/day. It's very primitive, and hilly and I loved it. A course is planned in sod house construction.

After Moonshadow we stopped for the night with Hector Black, an old friend of mine from bruderhof days in Paraguay, and his wife, Susie. There we met some other old ex-bruderhofers, Hutterites who remembered me from the 60's. Moonshadow buys trees from Hector’s nursery.

Loving Christian Community

From there we went on towards D.C. and spent a few hours with The Family, a Christian group that has 10,000 members wordwide living in complete community. I like them a lot. We recorded interviews there and in other communities for our Radio For Peace broadcast.

On the way, we heard an NPR broadcast on community also, and recorded most of it in the car. It's the first time NPR gave a whole hour to communal living in a good way. They had folks on from the Fellowship for Intentional Community and even one from Findhorn in Scotland, a group of 500. We can lend the tape.

We then stayed the night near D.C. with Ted & Schera, computer professionals also looking for a community.

NEW ENERGY WORLDWIDE

We hope that before the Y2K computer crisis is upon us, most of the world will have a positive vision of the future. We found in Cuba that where people expect a better future, tension is lower and folks cooperate better. With a loving, cooperative attitude, we can weather any storm. It’s like a miracle; Radio for Peace International, the world’s largest unlicensed station (over 30 KW on short wave) on UN property in Costa Rica broadcast 35 min. of my interviews with Dr. Randell Mills April 24, 1998. Local stations worldwide (except in the U.S,) will use those broadcasts or translate them and rebroadcast them to 500 million people !

Soon, I believe the world will start buzzing with these new discoveries in physics. Folks will realize that soon every little village will have its own electric power. Pollution and energy shortages will be ending.. Surely that news will filter back to our country and scientists here will have to look at Dr. Mills’ discoveries in a serious way. Nuclear and fossil fuels and even central power plants may soon be out of date ! Power companies are backing Dr. Mills.

INDIGENOUS PEOPLE UNITING

Radio For Peace International and the Association for Research and Enlightenment of Virginia Beach, VA are co-sponsoring a worldwide gathering of indigenous people October 4 - 9, 1998. Dr. Richard Schneider says:

Belonging to Mother Earth” (name of the conference) will encourage the healing of humankind and the nourishment and survival of Mother Earth. The gathering will bring together indigenous peoples and others from around the world to dialog and share ancient wisdom and healing in terms of and with great respect for indigenous ways. Healing ceremonies and rituals; words through keynotes, workshops and panels; much informal personal inter-action along with arts and music, will create an exchange of energy and healing among the indigenous peoples themselves and with peoples of the planet to enable a global communications network for all levels of healing.”

The conference intention: “Unified in the Spriit of Love and Respect, we heal Mother Earth and one another.”

I think Richard expected a few hundred people when he was invited to Europe to speak and raise funds. $50,000 was a goal because many attendees have no money. But it worked differently. He got 2 million pledged and plans to charter three jets from Europe with conference attendance rising above 2,000 and many of the world’s indigenous leaders and musicians expected to attend ! It’s clearly the biggest thing ever for RFPI. I’ll be putting all the printed material we have on these things in our home page as soon as we get a scanner.

Dr. Schneider just got back from Europe to find over 400 e-mails, more FAX’s and letters but called us and spent about 20 minutes on the phone. There will be at least 200 children at the conference and I’ve been invited to attend with one of our children. We’ll get a “work scholarship”. I’ve also been asked to submit information on workshops I can do on Community and on Natural Birth Control, or the New Energy. I’ll look for someone to do one on low power FM stations, or offer to do it myself.

History of Aquarian Research

While at East Wind I had to give a very brief account of Aquarian Research and wrote the following:

Started with $50 in 1969, tax exempt 501 c 3 scientific and educational since 1970. (Lawyers donated tax exemption.)

PURPOSE: to find ways to planetary positive future. .

1971 - 1984 - Tried to solve world population problem with THE NATURAL BIRTH CONTROL BOOK. Book sold 100,00 cc in English, four translations, had no impact on population. Learned that insecurity was the major cause of the problem, not lack of birth control. We also had peace activists as interns learning offset printing.

1974 - UNPOPULAR SCIENCE was published containing the first five years of our newsletter, Aquarian Alternatives (with introduction by Colin Wilson).

1976 - Showed my book publicly. Judy saw it and shared my goals. We married four weeks later, planned family.

1977 - 78 - Learned to fly, bought 1958 Cessna to take folks on communal visits. Also bought our house for $5,000 cash.

1983 - 84 - Printed, distributed 300,000 "Big Party Invita- tions" to change 1984 from year of Big Brother to year of Little Sister. Daughter April was born in the (UN) Year of the Child (1979). Was 3 when she was photographed for the Invitation: "Our Leader, Little Sister". (The invitation is like a dollar bill, same size, but more pink than green, photo in center is our little girl, not a military man, much humor and good stuff. You can still get one.)

1984 - Started to work on Reagan to end arms race. White House kept my letter away from Pres. Reagan though I called his secretary frequently for 10 months. Tried fire-walking as personal empowerment method, came to believe I could do anything (in time, that is).

1985, 86 - sent my Reagan letter to Gorbachov (4 X), was invited to Moscow (as a “citizen diplomat” by Barbara Marx Hubbard), met with Gorby's Advisor on U.S. Affairs. I realized Reagan got my letter from Gorby in Geneva. I discerned that the arms race was soon to end and published that information. Many were surprised when it happened.

1986 - Had lunch with Ted Turner (CNN) to ask him to make films on a positive future. He liked the idea. I started positive future novel (with novelist - It’s available on disk).

1988 - Gorby's advisor sent Dr. Peter Gladkov to visit U.S., fly with us for 3 weeks making video on communal living called Where's Utopia?. Asked Gorby's advisor, Georgy Arbatov to ask Ted Turner to get on with positive future project. Ted then created Turner Tomorrow Award and 2,358 positive future novels were submitted. $500,000 prize went to Daniel Quinn for ISHMAEL. Quinn later started FuturePositive Foundation in Houston, TX (1997).

1990 - Investigated Sonic Bloom system of organic agriculture, produced video about it. System greatly increases very healthy natural food production, but is poorly marketed.

1996, 97 - Flew my 1958 Cessna to Cuba as journalist. Learned of Cuban communes and many other good things about Cuban socialism and the positive attitude of everyone there. (U.S. Gov't. didn't like that. I'm having to get my pilot's license back after refusing to pay a big fine for a minor violation I committed.)

1997 - 98 - Learned of new energy discovery that will end pollution problems and make unlimited decentralized energy available. Discovery of inert hydrogen creates whole new physics, unified field theory, Taped four interviews with Dr. Randell Mills, published them and sent tapes to Radio for Peace International for worldwide broadcast. Now we are working with Radio for Peace on a broadcast about communal living also to be heard by 500 million people, but not through stations owned by U.S. corporate media. To hear Radio for Peace go to 15.050 MH (USB) and 21.465 MH by day, 7.385 MH nights.

For full text of interviews & the Australian patent in Infinite Energy Magazine send us $6.00 plus $3 priority mail. About 22 magazine pages are devoted to this new energy discovery.

Micro-Radio Conference

Recently I attended a large East Coast conference of low power FM radio broadcasters. About 200 came from all over. Our daughter April chaired the first meeting Friday evening where the head of FCC enforcement attended from Washington. He said FCC would try to enforce its regulations against unlicensed broadcasting while at the same time refusing to license stations under 100 watts. An FCC license can cost $250,000 He admitted, however that where there is no FCC field office, enforcement is unlikely.

We made it very clear to him that such enforecement was in violation of our constitutional rights to free speech and that each time they attacked a low power FM station not interfering with other broadcasting, we would help to start ten more. The official admitted there might be over a thousand stations already operating and was aware that the ACLU and NLG are defending our right to broadcast.

He claimed that low power FM stations could interfere with aviation radio but I told him as a pilot I knew that was untrue. Pilots and airports get low power FCC licenses without any fees or red tape and could far more easily interfere with aviation radio than FM broadcasters could. I think he understood that he was dealing with a large group of smart citizens who have public support for their stations and were not going to give up their freedom to broadcast with or without FCC licenses. Our ACLU lawyer is applying for a license to broadcast even though they’ve said we can’t have one.

The conference went beautifully and we were amazed how well all were fed and housed for three days almost without cost It was organized by the anarchist community where April lives. I learned of two good sources of finished FM transmitters and it should be possible to start a station anywhere for about $1,000. The best deal in equipment seems to be from Broadcast Warehouse in England. Hipoleto Cuevas said he got a 75 watt station for about $800 on a credit card. His e-mail address is <hipcuevas@aol.com>. Broadcast Warehouse is on web.

Billy Budget is offering finished transmitters for a little more, but he’s in Georgia and can more easily help if you have problems. Call him at 912-928 2784. If you have questions about the legality of un-licensed broadcasting you can call the Institute for Justice at 202 955-1300. A woman pointed out that the FCC operates under the interstate commerce clause of the constitution so if your signal does not cross state lines and you do no advertising, they have no jurisdiction over your use of the airwaves if you don’t interfere with licensed stations. WPPR (West Philadelphia Pirate Radio) which organized the conference has someone who can travel and help other stations set up or fix equipment. We talked about each station contributing to a fund to help with this and help any group the FCC might attack. Now FCC is considering a new rule allowing one watt stations, and the movement is getting good press.

Organizing the People

We see low power FM radio as a way to organize any town or city section into a cooperative and help to save many lives if things get chaotic in the next two years. That’s why we feel it so important to start as many stations as possible while we can. Because low power radio usually covers a radius of under 5 miles, it’s ideal for organizing a local area, cheaper and more effective than any kind of printed media. It’s also able to develop and use local talent by putting area children on the air. Doing that is sure to get the parents listening and also develop young folks’ sense of their own importance which schools rarely do. Teachers should be encouraged to set up stations also as an adjunct to school teaching.

NPR Reports on Conference National Public Radio did a very friendly report on low power FM on Sunday afternoon just after the conference ended. They must have planned ahead as they even interviewed Stephen Dunifer in California who started the first legal case against the FCC when they tried to close down Free Radio Berkeley. I managed to record it and send the 20 minute tape to April. NPR said there was a similar conference going on in Las Vegas where the wealthy Nat’l Assn. of Broadcasters were also meeting.

PURE WATER FOR ALL

We now drink the best water ever through a new type of filter that comes with a meter to measure the parts per million of impurities. Philadelphia water is among the worst, around 200 ppm. Years ago EPA said it was carcinogenic but nothing was done. This filter gets it down to 0 ppm and it tastes GREAT ! Here we get 50 gallons from each filter, and when the meter says 6 ppm we change filters for $25. I’ve tested the meter. It’s accurate.

Memphis TN has “good” water - only 25 parts per million of junk so one filter may last 500 gal. there. Spring water at Moonshadow tested only 7 ppm, though I expected a far higher reading from harmless minerals. “Distilled” water from a health food store was also 7 ppm. The meter is $30, the whole system, meter, filter & all is $129.95, and Aquarian gets a percentage. If you’re short of money we can get you the “bare essentials” for $50. You’ll have perfect water for less. Shipping may be $4 to $11 added.

TRUTH VS FOX TV

Does Fox TV care about truth in the news ? Or do they require reporters to lie when it suits their advertisers ? We’ve singled out Fox, but have no reason to believe the other networks (including NPR partially funded by the defense industry) are much different. The most honest reporting is on Radio for Peace Int’l., which tries to keep to positive answers, not exposes. (I’ll say more later. )

Steve Wilson and Jane Akre investigated the use of genetically engineered Bovine Growth Hormone in cows which greatly increases milk production. They found all kinds of serious problems making the milk sold without any warning to the public totally unsafe, and causing serious problems for the animals and farmers.

When they tried to report their findings, Fox demanded that they change their story and lie, or be fired in 48 hours. When they said they’d complain to the FCC, each was offered a large cash settlement to go away and keep quiet about the matter. All of this is detailed in their web site: www.foxBGHsuit.com. They write:

“After we stood up to being fired, turned down the easy money, and all those re-writes didn’t wear us down, we were told we were being suspended withut pay but or-dered to keep re-writing scripts ... we did rewrite those final two scripts - the honest version we wanted to report and the version Fox insisted on telling. Both are ... on the web along with our objections detailed point by point in the Fox-mandated script....” [Steve and Jane were on RFPI.]

“Jane and I would be happy to share anything we have with any of you who want to pursue the original story we were trying to tell (our scripts are on the web) or just want to share your opinions and suggestions about any of this. We invite you to visit the web site, post a message there if you like... wilson@foxBGHsuit.com or akre@foxBGHsuit.com

I wrote them with evidence about the Y2K issue which is also being covered up at great risk to millions and about the new energy breakthrough. They responded at once saying they’d LOVE to take it on but had no place to air it now, but agreed to try to share the info. with colleagues.

Hearing Radio for Peace Int’l.

I recently recorded most of a terrific talk by a cofounder of Global Exchange from Radio for Peace. Here’s the honest reporting uncontrolled by corporations. I got my high quality digital short wave radio, a Grundig Yacht Boy 400 from Universal Radio (800) 431-3939. It’s one of their best deals, highly recommended as the best set under $200. My cost for a factory reconditioned model (like new) was about $169. I gave RFPI frequencies earlier in this newsletter. I’ve got a simple antenna working now and hearing them both day and night with a clear signal. Radio for Peace is on the air worldwide, run mostly by volunteers. It’s so informal and wonderful. Please help if you can with don- ations to RFPI, P.O. Box 20728, Portland OR 97294.

Where Do We Go From Here ?

As soon as this newsletter is finished, we’ll work on finding the right place to move to and finding folks to care for our house for some months till we’re sure. We’ll consider some homeless groups or others who want to live rent-free and reliably forward our mail. If you know folks who might be interested please call or e-mail adresses on the first page.

As hard times approach we need to be safe and able to help others also. We’ll need to store alfalfa seeds for sprouts (the healthiest fresh food) and quantities of other food, plenty of clean water and an energy source (perhaps solar) when central power is out. We want a warm climate to risk a very hard winter with shortages of any kind. I think Florida is ideal but can’t find a suitable community there. Perhaps we should talk more with Florida friends to see how they feel about living communally.

Time is short because we need to feel secure in a new location and understand the area before things get bad. An amateur radio station is also needed for emergency communication and many other things not possible after it gets difficult. And yet we want to do this in ways that are not wasteful if things go better than expected.

Free Help with Computers

At the same time, we’re homeschooling Joel, who can give free computer counseling for both Macs and PCs. If you need help by phone you can call Joel at 215 849-1259 or 849-3237. He can usually call you back at 5 cents a minute. Don’t call too early in the morning. We appreciate tax-deductible donations to Aquarian so we can buy needed equipment like a scanner or a Power Mac, which would help us all. Minidisk recorders and disks to work with Radio for Peace on new programs also need to be paid for.

Is It Moral to Pay Income Tax ?
We may have a tiny tax debt this year, so I wrote the following letter to the IRS:

“Dear friends at IRS,
“I really sympathize with the hard job you folks have trying to extract money from an unwilling people. When they do pay it is mostly from fear, not love. How do you sleep at night knowing that ? I hope my letter would "make your day", not add to the troubles. Maybe it can, God willing.

“We have all sinned. Our nation, even our planet is in trouble because of the actions of our corporations. God created man, a mortal being with an immortal soul, but we have created corporations, immortal persons with no soul at all ! Abe Lincoln may have foreseen this danger, saying:

"I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country.
... Corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed." - Abraham Lincoln, Nov. 21, 1864 (letter to Col. William F. Elkins) Ref: "The Lincoln Encyclopedia", Archer H. Shaw (Macmillan).

“Recently I heard from Physicians for Social Responsibility that a corporation in Washington State is making new H bombs instead of dealing with nuclear waste and the government allows it. Many other things are being allowed or perpetrated by our government as our republic, perhaps even our world is being destroyed. I dare not partake by paying for that, and so in line with the Nuremburg Principles, I must refuse to comply. Please excuse therefore that I can send only a token payment of $1 (one dollar). Should this not suffice, I fear I will have to discuss my moral dilemma with Dr. Laura on her national radio talk show about moral dilemmas. Peace and love, Art Rosenblum

Un-jobbing: The Adult Liberation Handbook

Reviewed by Judy R.

Michael Fogler, a university music instructor, quit his job to do work he really loved as a free lance musician, writer, homeschooling parent and peace activist.
In this brief handbook he quesitons peoples’ assumptions about making a living and their need for large expenditures for cars, houses, taxes, insurance, etc. He encourages us to rethink our goals and scale down our lifestyles to be in alignment with our values, so we can plan creatively instead of fearfully. Fogler invites peope to share ideas and concerns by writing him c/o Free Choice Press, P.O. Box 1027, Lexington, KY 50488-1027 or by e-mail at <mfogler@ipc.apc.org> . 118 pg. Book is $12 incl. pstg.

John Gatto at Haverford Col.

We all went to hear NY State’s former “Teacher of the Year” who now speaks out and tells the truth about public schools. Despite much criticism, he says public schools are doing very well, exactly as they are designed, to keep poor Americans dumb! He details the history of public education proving it was set up by the wealthy to make sure only a few, the elite, would learn to think and the rest would be soldiers and worker servants of the upper classes.

His talk, with questions, exceeded two hours. If I get requests I’ll edit it to a C-120 audiotape for a $12 donation or free, if asked, with a $25 newsletter subscription.

Natural Vision Improvement

For the last three months I’ve been experimenting with an eye treatment product called “Riche’s MSM. Before starting, I had a thorough exam by my friend Dr. Markow , a teaching neuro-optometrist. MSM is quite harmless, related to DMSO, the solvent found in tree sap, often used in sports medicine as a rapid cure for muscle sprains, etc. MSM is not costly, four one oz. bottles for $15 inc. Pstg., but we’re supposed to put a drop in each eye each hour for three months. Of course, that’s not easy, so I just put in a drop whenever I think of it, at least 8 X/day.

Now, after three months, I saw Dr. Markow again. He found what I suspected, a considerable vison improvement. I can now just read Juno computer e-mail screens without glasses. Dr. Markow suggests continuing the treatment. MSM is supposed to work by softening the lens so the muscles can control it better. Reading without glasses can excercise those muscles and make them grow stronger. To try MSM yourself call NATR at 800-422-4716.

Discoveries In Dental Healing

I’ve had dental problems ever since I was given lots of sweets to “fatten me up” as a kid, and recently suffered from infections leading to tooth loss. I also knew that my saliva was too acid for good dental health (ph about 6). My regular dentist said it was unchangeable, so I went to a wholistic dentist who told me to remove two dead teeth with old root canals. She gave me a pamphlet written decades ago citing experiments proving many such teeth can poison the body with toxins they produce.

I learned that Dr. Fordham, a personal friend, had been her mentor, so I saw him for a second opinion. It was the same. One of those teeth was quite tight, a very serviceable molar I didn’t want to lose, but the evidence pointed to the need for a painful experiment. Against the advice of my regular dentist, I had him pull both teeth after antibiotic treatment to halt the infection. At first, there was no difference in ph, but Dr. Fordham said to give it a few weeks. Now, three months later, my saliva has a ph of 7 (normal) most of the time, and teeth that were loose have gotten tighter. It apears that we can, depending on our immunity, handle some old root canals, but not too many. I can make you a copy of the old pamphlet for a donation if you’re interested.

Items Available From Aquarian

Because there is so much to write about after such a long time, we have no room for the usual “Items...” sheet in the physical newsletter. Some new items are mentioned in the text and we may include more (along with lots of color photos) in our items available list online.

Knowing we’ll have to leave the old Texas Inst. Computer behind when we move, I decided with Joel’s help to do this all in Word. Joel taught me all about it and did the work on the photos as well as the entire home page. We hope to get him a Power Mac on which he can do a great deal more.

2000: History’s Climax

Sure, at every new century folks expect big changes, more so with a Millennium, but this time it seems obvious that so many things are combining for change that big things are sure to happen. We must take that seriously and do all in our power to make sure those changes are towards love and freedom rather than dictatorship or chaos. Please let us know how you can help this come about.

Peace and Love,
