This is Auarian's 219th Newsletter Dated 3/13/97

Dear Friends,

This is the E-mail version of Aquarian Alternatives Newsletter #
219.
The photo on the front page is our new prototype 20 watt FM
transmitter
which is frequency stable and can be set to any frequency on the
FM
band. It has high quality audio with a volume unit meter and
automatic
audio clipping in case the proper level is momentarily exceeded.
That
allows full modulation and therefore maximum range and clarity.
For
more information, see the photo caption below and at the heading
in the
newsletter about low power FM station we are prepared to set up at
any
location.

ABE LINCOLN ON OUR FUTURE

"I see in the near future a crisis
approaching that unnerves me and causes me
to tremble for the safety of my country.
... corporations have been enthroned and
an era of corruption in high places will
follow, and the money power of the country
will endeavor to prolong its reign by
working upon the prejudices of the people
until all wealth is aggregated in a few
hands and the Republic is destroyed."

Abraham Lincoln, Nov. 21, 1864 (Letter ot Col. William F. Elkins)
Ref. "The Lincoln Encyclopedia", Archer H. Shaw (Macmillan, 1950,
NY)

(From the March/April issue of the
Utne Reader, by Dana Ullman) Excerpted

NATURAL CURE FOR DEPRESSION

Some may find the above quote deeply
depressing. Others are too depressed to
care. But we have ways to deal with
depression and then to create cultures
that bring us back to joy. First a cure:

Depression can be so, well, depress-
ing. Susan Sontag described it as "melan-
choly minus its charm". But there's still
some good news about treating depression
that may bring a smile to sufferers.

Research now shows that an herb called
Saint-John's-wort is as effective in
treating depression as conventional anti-
depressants and has considerably fewer
side affects. Numerous double-blind scien-
tific studies have show it to be effective
in 50 to 80% of people with mild to moder-
ately severe depression (And while it may
help those with more severe depression,
they should also seek medical advice.

Patients who take Saint-John's-wort
have experienced not only reduced depres-
sion but also increased appetite, greater
self-esteem, more interest in life, and
restoration of normal sleeping habits ac-
cording to "Hypercium and Depression (Pre-
lude press.l996) by Dr. Harold Bloomfield,
Dr. Miael Norfors, and Peter McWilliams.
The herb is extracted from a flower that
grows wild in much of the world and has
been used for centuries to treat a number
of ailments. Saint-John's-wort can now be
found in liquid or capsule form at many
health food stores.

In the US, Prozac (fluoxetine) is the
most widely used treatment for depression;
it has been used by an estimated 20 mil-
lion people. Hailed as a medical break-
through when it was approved by the FDA in
l987, Prozac initially seemed to have few-
er and less serious side effects than
other anti-depressants. Eli-Lilly Company,
its manufacturer claimed that the drug had
been studied in 4,000 people during clini-
cal trials, but psychiatrist and writer
Peter Breggin, author of "Talking Back to
Prozac" (St. Martin's l995), discovered
that only 286 people completed the four-to
six-week test in Lily's studies. The stud-
ies found side effects, including agita-
tion, irritability, nightmares, abnormal
bodily movements, and palpitations. But
because FDA approval process evaluates
drug effects for only 6 - 8 weeks, it was
only later that Prozac users experienced
more severe side effects. Such problems
accompany most medications prescribed for
psychiatric conditions.

Depressed people should know that
medications (synthetic or natural) are not
the only treatment options. "NATURAL PRO-
ZAC" (Harpers, San Francisco, l997) by Dr.
Joel Robertson and Tom Monte suggests

various treatments including diet, exer-
cise, specific psychological self-help
techniques, and spiritual practices. In
"Yoga Journal" (Nov./Dec. l996) Kristin
Barendsen reviews herbal and nutritional
strategies, including ayurvedic healing,
yoga, and traditional Chinese medicine.

[PERSONAL NOTE: (from Art) I suffered
emotional abuse from first grade on, never
by my parents, but other children. I was
often depressed even in the Christian
community (Bruderhof) I joined at 20.

All that changed in 1964 when I read
EITHER/OR, PART II by Soren Kierkegaard.
He wrote: "Depression comes when the Spir-
it wants to change something in a person's
life, and that person is resisting the
change." A translator's note followed: "On
this particular point, Kierkegaard really
knew what he was talking about". I was,
very surprised. I re-read S.K.'s words
many times and when next depressed, I
asked myself: "What change does the Spirit
want to make in my life, what do I resist?

In seconds, I knew that I did not want
to apologize for something I'd done. I de-
cided to stop resisting and apologize. The
depression lifted instantly. I tried such
meditation each time. It always worked.
Soren (and the translator) were right.

But then I got really depressed. Each
time I asked, I was told to "leave the
Bruderhof" to which I'd promised my whole
life. After two days, when nothing else
seemed to work, I decided to leave "for a
time" to make sure I was really called to
that life. Community leaders, to my sur-
prise, also agreed, but said they knew God
had called me to that life. We all thought
I'd surely return.

Instead I found another community more
in line with my longings and the Bru-
derhof agreed to the change. Later I
traveled and lived in many different ones,
with great benefit. Depression ? I haven't
been depressed for over 5 minutes even
when with traumatic experiences, But I've
made a large number of changes !

I'm sure Kierkegaard was right.
Depression really is caused by failure to
follow the Spirit. However, many today are
so depressed they can't do that right
away, and need to work towards it with
healthful alternatives before risking
fundamental changes. But support from like
minded people is also a very important in-
gredient, perhaps the most important. I'd
not have done a fraction of what I do if
not for Judy's support, and in a really
supportive, affectionate community free of
violence, fear and sexual repression, I'm
sure we could all do far better still.

DAWNS AQUARIUS ?

As we wrote last month, the new
millennium as dated from the birth of
Jesus has already started. A 4 yr. cleri-
cal error in the 6th century was never
corrected, so it is already 2,000 years
since Jesus' birth. Most are unaware of
it. We may have a slow build-up to world
changes. We're facing changes right now.

Our daughter April (17) plans to move
into a shared house in West Philadelphia,
but this month we all plan to visit a
Rainbow Family communal house in West Palm
Beach, FL. I've just sent them a donated
386 computer so they can get on line with
us. With free communication and the
planned visit, we'll see if we can move
there this year. Living there, we can fly
to Cuba anytime (with a Cuban invitation.)

FLYING WITH BIRDIE TO CUBA

For new readers, I should mention that
we flew Birdie, our '58 Cessna to Cuba
last October and discovered that, except
for obvious poverty, most U.S. info. on
Cuba is just CIA lies. Cuba is a most co-
operative, friendly place where people
work hard but are very relaxed. Ask for
newsletters 217 and 218 to read about it.
They are available by e-mail or with SASE.

Call 202-622-2520 for Cuba Travel "regs.".
from Assets Control of the Treas. Dept.
They will send you the official regula-
tions without charge.

CUBA TRIP NEEDS DEPOSIT NOW

With new plans to visit Palm House in
March, our next Cuba trip won't need much
time in Florida. Earliest departure: April
7, latest, June 10. Preferred window April
14 to June 5, depending on passenger need.
The round trip may last 8 - 10 days and is
only $300 (plus any donation you can
afford) per person for transportation.
Additional costs in Cuba, only about $150
for a week's stay which includes visas,
fees, food, but not extras you buy or ho-
tels. Instead of hotels, we're offered one
room with a friend, a Cuban family wanting
to practice English. To share in this
fantastic adventure call me right away at
215-849-1259 or 3237 day or evening.

ZEGG'S SHIP KAIROS TO AMERICA ?

The modern 80 foot, 22 passenger sail-
ing ship, Kairos is not profitable in the
Canary Islands, so we need a buyer, per-
haps in Florida. We'd like to see its de-
sign purpose, study of higher intelligenc-
es (whales/dolphins) and human love rela-
tionships fulfilled. It might also visit
other Caribbean islands including Cuba. I
have a moving video-slide show of the
Kairos showing its direct contact with the
dolphins, photos, and full specifications
of this remarkable vessel.

Based in So. Bimini, Bahamas (20 min-
utes off shore with our plane), it could
be an independent part of our community
and sail freely anywhere. If you know
anyone interested in this amazing bargain,
contact me at once.

LOW POWER FM STATIONS
BUILDING COMMUNITY WHERE YOU LIVE

We'll be looking for folks to live and
work with us in our new home if we move to
Florida, but we also want to help folks in
other cities start their own low power FM
station to organize a supportive community
where they are. Cost is well under $1,000.
You need no FCC license because a federal
court has found that our right to free
speech precludes the government from stop-
ping such stations as long as they cause
no interference or illegal activity. We've
developed a fine transmitter ready to go.
We could set up a dozen stations in six
months and show others how to do it also.

The process is very simple. We can
bring a kit to your location and show you
how it operates. You need no electronics
background. See photo on page one above
Abe Lincoln's message. This unit has good
audio control built in. With your own
station you can wrest the airwaves from
corporate radio and put the local kids on
the air. I enjoy asking them for their
vision of the future - the world they'd
like to create and we can talk about how
to do it. We learn to make good tapes of
those conversations and then pass the word
to all the neighbors to hear their kids on
the FM dial. The sound quality is great.

In time, others will want to share on
air and you can organize meetings and pot-
lucks and with visits to successful commu-
nities in other areas, might be able to
build your community right where you are.

CAN WE TEACH EMPATHY ? The following
article from Tikkun Magazine is reprinted
with permission. Here are some comments of
mine before the article

Our schools are in trouble as is our
entire competitive culture. Politicians do
not have answers, because they live in the
same sea of tension that surrounds our
children. Here's and example of a school
that works from which we could learn:

FACING A POSITIVE FUTURE

Long run, our future looks bright !
But today, and for the next 20 years,
perhaps, we're heading for real trouble
unless people rise up, like those students
in low income area schools, and decide to
make a difference. We don't have to accept
failure and corruption indefinitely. Great
possibilities await us. See below for
amazing energy discoveries that could
change the physical world, but may not
unless the people rise up and demand it.

WHO STOLE AMERICA ?

The Phila. Inquirer had a long series
called: "Who Stole the Dream", but I saw a
wordy whitewash. We're in denial. We're
avoiding real issues like who's really in
control ?

Now the Iquirer says that LBJ opposed
the V/N war right from the start, but was
forced into it, fearing impeachment if he
did not go along ! So, then who had such
power over the president ? Was it the same
ones who'd just killed JFK ? And what
kind of man was LBJ to let millions die to
avoid impeachment ? Why didn't the paper
tell the truth 30 years ago ? And if they
concealed the truth then, are they telling
all now ? Who controls Clinton ?

This month I've spent a lot of time on
the Internet where truth is more likely.
Rumor has it "they" are worried about all
that info. getting out. They can't totally
control the internet so they are looking
for ways to make it expensive, like per
minute phone charges for every provider,
passed on, of course to users. Thousands
are writing in protest, but if phone
companies really do that, we'll have to
find more creative ways to resist.

FREE E-MAIL AND INTERNET ACCESS

Even if rates rise, our e-mail can be
free. If you have a computer that can run
Windows 3.1 or higher, you can use Juno's

don't want to wait weeks for the disk, you
can get it from Aquarian for any donation.
We're using Juno also. Copies are legal.

I'm not yet sure if this works with
Juno, but here's a way to reach the entire
internet via e-mail, something very impor-
tant for folks in countries like Cuba who
have e-mail only. For complete detailed

AMAZING ENERGY DISCOVERIES

(From: Ron Baalke at Jet Propulsion
Laboratory, Pasadena, CA. For more info.
contact John Watson (818) 354-5011.)

A new safe, compact, light, efficient,
non-polluting JPL-USC methanol fuel cell
shows promise for zero-emission vehicles.

A revolutionary design for a cool-pro-
cess, zero-emission methanol fuel cell
just patented by Caltech's Jet Propulsion
Laboratory and the University of Southern
California is already under fast-track
development for a wide range of uses. ****

In one major project, developers
believe they can create a unit about the
size of a thick paperback book that can
run continuously for weeks at a time,
producing 50 watts of power, consuming
about a pint of methanol fuel per day, and
emitting only water and carbon dioxide.
Larger units can run cars and if the
electricity produced charges a battery for
high use times, very little power is need-
ed for a vehicle. Of course, development

is funded by a defense agency, part of
corporate America and the oil industry, so
recall Lincoln's words on page one.

EVEN PURER ENERGY SOURCE

Scientists recently found bacteria
that live near hot springs on the sea bot-
tom which produce pure hydrogen from sugar
and have been able to isolate the enzymes
that do it. Michael Danson, biochemist at
the University of Bath, England said the
process can also use simple cellulose -
the basic component of plants. Jonathon
Woodward, an expert in enzymes at ORNL,
run by Lockheed Martin Energy Research
Corp. for U.S. Dept. of Energy is: "aiming
to generate hydrogen as a vehicle fuel."

Lockheed Martin is our major defense
contractor. When will the people get that
technology ? But, wait, there's more:

AMAZING HYDROGEN STORAGE SYSTEM

by Stephen Hill

HYDROGEN-POWERED cars could travel up
to 5,000 miles on a single tank of gas
thanks to a graphite storage material
developed by researchers at Northeastern
University in Boston, Massachusetts. Nelly
Rodriguez and her team claim that their
graphite nanofibres can store up to three
times their own weight in hydrogen under
pressure at room temperature - more than
10 times more than current storage media.
The nanofibres, packed into cartridges,
could be exchanged and re-filled. The car
would use hydrogen fuel cells for electric
operation. Info? E-mail .
Excerpted from New Scientist, 12/21/96

These discoveries show that a new era
of low cost energy is possible, but the
research, done with tax dollars benefits
the defense industry, not us. Can we trust
that those people have our interest at
heart? E-Mail me for HYDROGEN.CAR -Art

MASSIVE GOVERNMENT FRAUD

From other internet sources we learn
of massive deception in high places, just
as Lincoln feared. I wanted it all in this
newsletter, but it's too long and for Judy
much too negative. is our
new E-dress. Use document names as given,
and any donation would be appreciated. For
documents by post, please send at least $5
for each order as it takes much more time.

Some examples of government fraud
found on the internet include:

WACO - THE RULES OF ENGAGEMENT is a new
3 hr. film proving beyond any doubt that
government agents intended to kill those
people. All the info. was there for con-
gressional investigators who chose to ig-
nore it. The film was shown at the Sun-
Dance film festival but media won't show
it. Ask for WACO-FLM .

TWA FLIGHT 800: Massive evidence shows the
plane was shot down by a missile as Pierre
Salinger declared. Interviewed TWA pilots
say they know it, but 100 or so military
personnel who saw it have been silenced.
You can get the documents E-mail by asking
me for TWA-800.MSL & TWA-800.M-2 proving
the missile theory. Ask for TWA-800.PIL
for the report of pilot interviews.

OKLAHOMA CITY: DAY ONE is a new book by
Michelle Moore. She was there and recorded
everything that happened in great detail,
showing up massive fraud. For a book re-
view by E-mail ask for doc. OK-CITY.REV .

BOOK REVIEW - (Sort of - by Art)

DEATH BLOSSOMS by Mumia Abu-Jamal, his la-
test book published by the Bruderhof Com-
munitys' Plough Publishing (800) 521-8011,
is a series of short essays about prison
life. I have room to quote only one:

"Nintey-five percent of the guards
I've met are doing their job simply
because they need the money. Like cops and
sheriffs, they are men, human beings, and
their central concerns, needs and fears
are the same as anyone else's - they need
to pay rent, put bread on the table, pro-
vide an education for their children. But
they have become part of the system be-
cause of their fear, they have bought into
it because it is built on fear. Remember,
the SYSTEM is not a true reality, but an
idea which can be fought and dismantled.
People forget that we don't need the
system or the accessories we mistakenly
assume are essential for living. We need
only the things God gave us: love, family,
nature. We must transform the system.
That's the challenge. It's do-able, but
only if we ourselves do it."

The Bruderhof challenges: "Mumia Abu-
Jamal is on death row: ... Where are you ?

Corporations, as Lincoln said, may de-
stroy our nation. Is it any wonder they
want to limit the internet to the rich by
making it costly ? See page 8, a letter to
the Inquirer about the way the State and
Temple U.'s WRTI do it. Any wonder folks
plan to sabotage WRTI's April fundraiser ?

LETTER TO THE EDITOR, PHILA. INQUIRER
March 1, 1997

"A VOICE FROM INSIDE PRISON IS ONE PEOPLE
SHOULD HEAR" was the title of the
following article in the Philadelphia
Inquirer, 3/1/97. I printed it with the
photo of Mumia Abu-Jamal's face on the
side of a building as a police car passes
by. The photo was cleverly taken from
across the street behind an iron fence so
the whole scene, car and prisoner are
shown behind the bars. The Inquirer
provided the photo. The large face of
Mumia was painted on the wall by members
of the "Declaration of Independence Co-
signers Convention", an organization head-
ed by James Bevel, a close associate of
Martin Luther King. Here's the letter that
appeared in the paper:

The prison population of this country is
at an all-time high with more than 1.5
million inmates in federal, state, and
county jails. Prisons are being built so
rapidly that for the first time last year
our nation spent more money creating mew
cells than building new college
classrooms.
Certainly if one issue deserves all-
sided public debate, it is the direction
of crime and punishment in America.
That is what makes so astounding the
decision of the administration of Temple
University on Feb. 24 to cancel from its
campus radio station programming, a
national daily political news show,
DEMOCRACY NOW on which I serve as a co-
host.
That abrupt decision came the very
morning that our show began broadcasting a
two-week string of commentaries by Mumia
Abu-Jamal, who is on Pennsylvania's death
row for the 1981 murder of Philadelphia
Police Officer Daniel Faulkner.
Temple's decision knocked Democracy
Now off 11 other radio stations in Penn-
sylvania, South Jersey and Deleware for
which WRTI serves as a feeder station. The
decision came despite Democracy Now being
one of WRTI's most popular shows, as
repeatedly demonstrated by the amount of
pledge money the show raised during WRTI
fund drives among listeners.
But more important than economics is
the chilling message of press censorship
and academic thought control at one of
Pennsylvania's top universities.
George Ingram, Temple's associate vice
president for university relations, said
in a letter to Pacifica Radio, which
produced Democracy Now, that "The cancel-
lation ... has been under consideration
for some time. Quite frankly, the decision
was accelerated by news that Democracy
Now" would air the Mumia Abu-Jamal radio
commentaries that National Public Radio
rejected in 1994."
Three years ago, NPR canceled a
similar, though not the same Abu-Jamal
essays after intense last-minute pressure
from the national Fraternal Order of
Police.
There is no need here to re-hash Abu-
Jamal's guilt or innocence. But Abu-Jamal
has become the best-known death-row
prisoner in America. He is also among the
most eloquent inmate spokesmen alive
today.
To those of us who have heard the mad
ravings of a Charles Mansion on network
television, or the prime-time exposure
granted a statuatory rapist like Long
Island's Joey Buttafuoco, or the radio
shows of Watergate convict G. Gordon
Liddy, the frenzy to imprison Abu-Jamal's
thoughts seems extraordinary.

CALL CONGRESS FOR FREE !

You can reach the office of any U.S.
senator or congress person by calling 800
962-3524 or 800-972-3524. That's the
Capitol Switchboard. An operator will ask
you which office you wish to speak to and
if it is after hours she'll nevertheless
connect you with their voice mail. I'm
told the switchboard is active 24 hours,
but when I asked how many people work
there I was told they could not give me
that information !

After this newsletter was printed, my
son Joel (12) had a homework assignment to
get the name, address and phone number of
his senators and congress person, so I
told him he could call that number any
time and he did. He left a message and got
a call back next day from Anne Whitman in
Sen. Santorum's office.

I explained the reason for Joel's call
and went on to tell her about the "failed"
justice system in Philadelphia and how
citizens were giving up on politicians
because of it. I asked her to have Sen.
Santorum start an investigation of our
system here.

It turned out that she knew nothing at
all about Mumia Abu-Jamal, so I offered to
send her the above letter from the
Inquirer which I have done. I also
included the quote from Abe Lincoln at the
start of this newsletter. In a few days
I'll call her back and ask if she gave my
letter to the Senator and what they are
going to do about it. With this 800 number
we can easily create a dialog with our
senators and congress people and demand
answers. I hope folks will use it
effectively.

Peace and love,
Art & Judy Rosenblum

OH BEAUTIFUL UPON THE EARTH - the novel we
wrote for the Turner contest, has preface
by top winner, Dan Quinn. This is a book
of the future ! OH B. ... brings a world
where love relationships work and folks
can choose almost any lifestyle. Most live
cooperatively so tension is down, illness,
crime and addiction rare. Youth, legally
free in their own centers to learn love
and intimacy, leave intercourse for later.
Jet travel is costly, but "floaters", safe
for teens to fly, take off on alcohol, do
80 mph on solar. Economic collapse, rising
awareness have abolished military systems;
Sonic Bloom agriculture is speeding refor-
estation, but grave environmental problems
persist. Hope is high, but nanotechnology
creates shocking adventures. The work is
based mostly on real discoveries not yet
popular but ends with a moving surprise.
You can co-author, co-publish this
disk-novel by adding your comments and
copying the disk for others ! Say com-
puter and disk size, IBM, Mac, HD, DD. $10

ISHMAEL by Daniel Quinn is the first prize
winner of Ted Turner's contest to find the
best novels leading to a positive future.
Many say it has changed their thinking for
ever, and I find the same. It shows that
We are NOT humanity, but only one culture
that tends to destroy other cultures. As
we open our minds to this truth, we pre-
pare for the positive future to come.
Quinn liked our disk novel enough to write
a preface for it, and I think ISHMAEL is
one of the best. We have a few copies left
at only $6 plus $2 postage.

AUDIOTAPES

ISHMAEL on audiotape: condensed by Quinn -
2 C-90 Cassettes. (See above for details.)
The tape is a great way to grasp Quinn's
message, especially for groups to hear and
discuss. Each time I hear it I get some-
thing new. It's only $15/set plus 2 stamps
(or $2 for 1st class mail).

TRANSFORMATION IN SECRET is an actual
dream. The story was so vivid I had to get
up at 3 a.m. and record it. In the dream
itself, I was puzzled, like a mystery mov-
ie but with deep spiritual significance
especially for youth struggling for ans-
wers in this mixed up world. Finally we
learn the most amazing way the lives of
young people were transformed. $10

SAFE SEX: OUTERCOURSE - SEX WITHOUT INTER-
COURSE; an interview with Jay Friedman,
Educ. Dir. of Planned Parenthood, with
Society for the Scientific Study of Sex.
Jay goes into schools teaching about sex
without intercourse, total safety. It's a
relaxing, spiritual approach. This was
taped from WWDB, a local radio station. 45
min. Loan only, deposit: $10

COLOMBIAN UTOPIAN COMMUNITY, GAVIOTAS as
witnessed by Alan Weisman of NPR in 1994.
Address and phone numbers on tape. I phon-
ed them to learn community is highly re-
spected by both sides in Colombian civil
war, that Gaviotas is an "Island of Peace"
with 200 people going 25 years. They have
had miracles by planting a million trees;
a new rain forest never seen before. Gavi-
otans have also found a remarkable solu-
tion to jealousy; one we did not expect
NPR to report; also a way children enjoy a
chore like pumping water. For text only by
e-mail ask for GAVIOTAS.TXT.

On side 2 of this tape is Mark Twain's WAR
PRAYER professionally performed. This most
moving of Twain's works was published pos-
thumously. It's great for churches or all
considering issues militarism. About 15
min. each side. On loan (1 yr.): Dep. $10
